[Rain Burst Cosplay] Path to Nowhere: Sake Served, Awaiting the Traveler's Return

Sake is ready, and incense perfumes the robes. This time I'm cosplaying Rain Burst from Path to Nowhere, a traveler with red horns and a chilling aura. As the lens focuses on the unfinished endgame on the Go board, I feel the story has just begun.
The initial visual impact of this look comes from the red-and-white contrast and geometric elements. The off-white outer coat is made of a slightly rigid cotton-linen blend fabric, preventing the shoulders and cuffs from sagging. For those red interlocking geometric square patterns around the shoulders and neckline, I asked the tailor to perform multiple pattern fittings to ensure clean edges and sharp lines, fitting the unique aesthetic of blending advanced technology and traditional Chinese style from the original design. The inner red bandeau fits the bust line; although the style looks simple, it demands highly accurate measurements. The white shorts and black leather wide belt below form a classic 2D battle outfit. The metal buckle of the belt has a distressed finish, and the "NIAN" letters on it add a touch of techwear texture.
The head styling is key to the restoration. The wig features alternating layers of dark and light greyish-white, with a few braided strands on top adding a sense of airiness and refinement. For the most recognizable red horns, I used lightweight, high-density EVA material, polished and colored multiple times to give it a red coral-like surface texture under the light. Combined with the matching red elf ears, the non-human alien aura of the character is anchored right at the visual center. To match this look, I also intentionally added a reddish eyeshadow gradient, which not only reshapes the eyes but also gives the gaze a sharp chill in front of the lens.
The shooting venue was chosen in a traditional Chinese style studio photography environment filled with Zen and the warmth of wood. The wooden floors, translucent bamboo curtains, and the woven bamboo screen behind—these elements naturally carry a sense of narrative when combined. The Go board on the floor, with the intertwining of black and white pieces, lays out an atmosphere of gaming and waiting.
As for the props, this red-and-white interlaced weapon is truly not light. To be able to hold it with one hand and strike a natural, composed pose, I did specialized wrist strength training before the shoot. The red and white modules of the weapon were made of high-density foam boards and supported by multiple carbon fiber tubes inside, striving for a precise restoration of the surface patterns. During the shoot, to showcase both the weapon's weight and the character's presence, I tried to find a balance point—not making the prop look weightless, but also not losing my facial composure due to the heavy burden.
The most critical part was the light and shadow. The sunlight filtered through the gaps of the woven bamboo curtains, falling onto the white coat and bare legs, creating a bright and intense light-dark boundary. This natural illumination, along with a warm fill light from the side, perfectly outlined the contours of the character's body and kept the image from looking flat. To present the most appropriate atmosphere, we intentionally chose to shoot in the afternoon, letting the sunlight slant in and blend with the tone of the wooden background, evoking a lazy and detached feeling of dusk.
During the post-processing, I mainly calibrated the white balance for the geometric red edges to ensure the white coat didn't turn yellow under the warm light. At the same time, I didn't excessively use skin smoothing or liquifying, but instead preserved the skin's original texture and details. This allowed the character's sexy side to shine while keeping the figure looking real and powerful. The entire set didn't chase cheap special effects but focused heavily on shaping the aura of the light, including detailed adjustments to the light and dark of the profile, the texture of the thighs, and the three-dimensionality of the geometric markings.
Releasing this set of photos is a remodeling of the character's state, and a challenge to my own professionalism as a cosplayer. The balance between relaxation and strength, the combination of coldness and sexiness, all need to be conveyed through body language. I hope you can taste the lukewarm warmth of a slight buzz in this cup of sake.
