For this shoot, we chose Guyi Garden as the outdoor location. The covered bridges, stone steps, and the lotus pond in the garden match this white and yellow combat suit surprisingly well. The outfit has many details; the black geometric structure on the chest combined with yellow lines makes it look very sleek when worn. However, I had to be careful not to snag the giant beast tail and long ribbons on the railings while walking.
The photographer is great at capturing light. The slanted afternoon sun piercing through the leaves cast mottled shadows on the stone paths, giving the skirt and red ribbons a perfectly transparent texture. The giant sword prop was heavier than expected; holding it with one hand for a long time made my wrist sore, but the tension captured in the photos was definitely worth it. To match the character's dashing Hollow Hunter-level strength and aura, I tried several poses: standing and drawing the sword, sitting on the stone railing looking back over my shoulder, and lifting one leg to show off the red leg tattoo. I had to readjust my center of gravity every time I changed angles, but thankfully these red and black platform shoes were stable enough.
The most relaxing part of the shoot was actually the set taken sitting by the waterside pavilion. With the wind blowing across the water and the lotus leaves rustling, having the prop sword leaning beside me allowed me to catch my breath a little. That's how outdoor shooting goes: you have to stay emotionally immersed while constantly checking if any prop or clothing details have shifted. For instance, the red circular ornament on the hairband and the white headband on my forehead could easily be blown askew by the wind if I wasn't careful.
This time, I deliberately chose a set of highly dynamic standing poses as the main composition, but the sitting ones also retained a sense of relaxation. The architectural lines of Guyi Garden lean toward the traditional, while the character's styling leans toward an Anime cosplay techwear style. I am quite satisfied with the visual contrast created by this collision. Outdoor lighting changes quickly, so we basically moved around following the sun's angle. Fortunately, the light and shadow layers in the final images are very distinct.
The storage of props is also worth mentioning. Moving the giant sword and tail between locations was indeed a bit troublesome, but thankfully the park's walkways were wide enough. The entire photography team worked together seamlessly. The photographer would promptly remind me about my expressions and angles, allowing me to focus on the expansiveness of my movements. This kind of outdoor Guyi Garden photography with heavy props really tests your stamina, but seeing the final images on the screen turned all the hard work into a sense of accomplishment.
While sorting through the photos, I noticed that different framings and lighting affect the visual effect of the same outfit. For example, side lighting highlights the texture of the skirt, while top lighting makes the white appear purer. The lotus flowers, red leaves, and red lanterns captured this time also served as excellent background accents, giving the images more depth. As a character interpretation for Ye Shunguang Cosplay, I feel that everything from the costume's accuracy to its integration with the scene met my expectations. I am also grateful to the team for accompanying me under the hot sun for repeated positioning and adjustments.
