[Kotori Kanbe cosplay] The Dreamy Girl in Rewrite: Photoshoot Insights on this Lolita fashion Dress

The character Kotori Kanbe in Key's classic work Rewrite holds a very special aura. Deciding to take on her bridal Lolita fashion dress this time, I poured a lot of thought into the set design and makeup styling.

For this shoot, I selected an exquisite pink satin dress; the voluminous skirt and puff sleeves wonderfully recreated Kotori's delicate doll-like fragility. The fabric has a subtle sheen that looks stunning under indoor lighting. Great care was also taken with the wig: custom-ordered long brown curly hair braided into small twin braids on the sides, topped with a floral wreath of pink and white roses, a sheer white veil, and a pearl necklace, making the overall look highly complete.

For makeup, to convey the pure and tranquil aesthetic of the character, I meticulously adjusted the concealer and base to create a porcelain-doll skin texture. Soft pink tones were used for eyeshadow, paired with green contact lenses to match the character's eye color. The eye makeup was drawn slightly larger with clearly defined lower lashes, which, combined with blush on the cheeks, evoked an illustrative, painting-like atmosphere.

The studio set was arranged with great care, featuring a white spiral staircase, Roman pillars, stained glass windows, and lush blue and white floral arrangements. Standing in front of the stained glass, the photographer used a wide aperture to blur the background smoothly, keeping the subject in sharp focus. For posing, we focused on serene, subtly melancholic actions—such as gazing into the lens holding a bouquet, or closing my eyes to feel the ambiance—using light and shadow layering to express the rich inner emotions of the character. Although the long skirt completely concealed my legs without showing leg or stocking silhouettes, this maxi dress shifted visual weight onto upper-body expressions and postures.

During the shoot, posing with such a massive skirt required considerable effort. The photography team, Tohno Sakuya, handled lighting very professionally, especially utilizing glass reflections to add a sacred touch to the frames. Being a classic, hidden-gem Galgame cosplay character, this shoot was more of a heartfelt homage to the original Key masterpiece, aiming to present a dimensional, nuanced Kotori Kanbe before the camera.
