This is my second time coming to the Kochia garden for an outdoor shoot, and this time I chose Flandre Scarlet from Touhou Project. This year's Kochia is growing much better than last year; the spherical plants are highly plump, and the colors are in a gradient transition period from yellow-green to deep red, offering a different sense of layering in tones compared to last year.
In terms of makeup and hair, this golden wig selected a light curl to recreate the character's features. The glossiness of the hair strands is quite natural without being intentionally styled too flat. The headpiece is the classic large white ruffled mob cap, paired with wine-red lace ribbons; the red-and-white color scheme forms a unified visual whole with the dress showcasing a classic Lolita fashion silhouette. The upper body of the costume features white bubble sleeves paired with a red sleeveless vest. The cuffs have multi-layered pleating, and with the cross-stitch details at the neckline, the texture is highly solid. The red and white color-blocking of the skirt hem looks quite bright under outdoor light.
For props, I prepared classic brown teddy bears in two sizes, large and small, making it convenient to adjust the frame's center of gravity in different compositions. Additionally, I brought several strings of polyhedron rhombic crystal hangings. The purple, blue, and green semi-transparent materials generate beautiful refractions under the sun; hanging them on the black branches enhances a fairy-tale atmosphere, serving as an extension of Flandre Scarlet's elements. During the shoot, there were many interactive movements involving the bear, such as holding it in my arms, lifting it over my head, or acting as if sharing a red apple with the character, making the frame look much more vivid.
The shots were taken around white wooden chairs and boardwalks, which, paired with the alternating light and dark Kochia backdrop, gave a strong flavor of an autumn outdoor estate. The afternoon light was relatively soft, with backlighting outlining the contours of the character's edges under a warm color temperature. The post-processing did not excessively alter the terrain or plant colors, but focused on preserving the layers of the vegetation while appropriately brightening the character's skin tone and makeup saturation. When shooting this kind of ACG outdoor location theme, one must be mindful of preventing prop entanglement, especially since the crystal hangings easily get tangled when walking around. Furthermore, mosquitoes are active in the grass, so preparing mosquito repellent in advance ensures a smoother shooting process.
