Long straight brown hair paired with red horn headpieces and matching contact lenses finally brought the fusion of esports style and sci-fi elements together beautifully. Today was the 2026pi Photography Equipment Exhibition, and as an invited cosplayer, I had to hurry over to the convention center.
The moment I stepped into the hall, beyond the blast of powerful air conditioning, I was greeted by the dazzling glare of telephoto and prime lenses everywhere. This place was sheer paradise for photography lovers, with each major brand designing their booths with cutting-edge tech aesthetics. My primary mission today was collaborating with photographers in the booth areas for portrait sessions. Walking past the Viltrox booth and seeing the neatly aligned lenses and field monitors filled me with emotion; I often rely on such gear for my cosplay shoots, so experiencing them up close onsite sparked a wonderful sense of connection.
Finding a red gaming chair in the lounge area, I smoothed my skirt and sat down. Amidst the continuous barrage of shutter clicks, maintaining natural posture became essential homework. Shooting in a convention center with intricate ambient lighting severely tests the autofocus capabilities of the gear and the photographer's light control. I angled my body slightly, resting my folded hands in front to best display the fabric textures and the sleek sheen of the silver skirt. The white fishnet stockings on my legs equally challenged the lighting setups—a momentary lapse could easily blow out the highlights, but luckily the surrounding photographers were thoroughly professional, exchanging angles and camera settings as they shot.
During midday breaks, I explored other exhibition zones. I not only handled Sony's latest camera bodies, but also picked up compact prime lenses at the Viltrox booth. People usually see cosplayers at their most glamorous in front of the lens, yet behind the scenes, we spend hours standing in stuffy crowds wearing heavy wigs and unconventional costumes. Sometimes, to help demonstrate a specific lens angle, we have to freeze in place holding props for extended periods.
The afternoon shoot shifted toward a vintage sweet aesthetic: I changed into a classic black-and-white maid outfit, put on a lace headband, and continued shooting within a staged retro living room set. Leaning back against the wicker chair and breathing in the gentle fragrance from nearby floral props, my entire body relaxed. The photographer guided me to touch my fingertip to my cheek or reach out gently toward the blossoms—these interactive gestures reliably captured much livelier frames.
Walking the entire expo allowed me to marvel at cutting-edge photography gear while connecting with many talented peers and photographers. Inside an exhibition center with complex lighting, finding the optimal angle quickly and guiding a cosplayer toward their most natural state remained constant topics of discussion. As dusk fell, taking off the heavy wig and accessories left me physically exhausted, yet reviewing the keepers on camera made every ounce of effort that day feel thoroughly worthwhile.
