Many friends have asked how this scene was created—simply put, we found the rooftop of a traditional-style architectural building, and during lighting, carefully kept the color temperature cooler to accentuate the vibrant orange hair. I spent considerable time trimming and setting the wig; capturing that airy, slightly windswept texture paired with white highlights and orange lenses truly brought out the composed, calculating demeanor of a master strategist once makeup was complete.
I readjusted the costume details multiple times. The outer black-and-red spliced leather jacket carries substantial weight, and being genuine leather, it blocked the nocturnal outdoor wind remarkably well; however, the inner white layer lacked breathability, feeling quite stifling against the skin. The long opera gloves—graduating from flame-orange to white with flame-like motifs—were tricky to slip on and off, requiring careful anchoring with straps and necklaces to sit at flattering angles. Furthermore, the black star-cutout Stockings paired with the mini skirt established razor-sharp silhouette lines against the elevated rooftop backdrop. To channel that enigmatic and subtly perilous aura, I held a wine goblet alongside a paper umbrella patterned in red and white. Holding the umbrella demanded elbow tension to keep it steady while maintaining relaxed shoulders so as not to appear rigid in this Traditional Chinese style cosplay.
The Go (weiqi) sequence was my favorite part of the entire shoot. To ensure gripping the stones didn't look clumsy, I specifically practiced the classical finger grip and stone-placing gestures before the session. The moment I lowered my gaze toward the Go board, lines from Changli's story resonated in my mind: 'To find a worthy match in you is a true blessing.' In character lore, her intellect, tactical prowess, and unwavering serenity amidst worldly chaos were traits I passionately wanted to convey through my eyes. Though photographs are static, I wanted the intense focus and tactical gamesmanship of the match to breathe through my body language.
Outdoor location shooting is truly an endurance test. The ceramic roof tiles provided uneven footing; sitting or leaning on them required constant core engagement to keep balance. Whenever a sudden gust swept across the roof, the paper umbrella caught the wind like a sail, nearly dragging me off balance, not to mention the little rabbit plush and lanterns arranged in the foreground that almost rolled off multiple times! The photographer worked tirelessly to find perspectives, testing angles from high, low, left, and right. In the dark night environment, the lighting assistant ran back and forth continuously with reflector boards and rim lights to ensure clean facial illumination and refined skin textures.
