"One day, no one will have to live in fear." Carrying a deep understanding of and respect for the character of Theresa, I completed this Arknights cosplay photoshoot themed around the EPOQUE Series - "Condolence" Civilight Eterna. Throughout the preparation stage, the most labor-intensive part was undoubtedly the massive pair of white wing props. To ensure the wings appeared lightweight, translucent, and richly layered with feather textures on camera, I repeatedly adjusted the feather arrangement density while putting considerable effort into the support strength of the internal armature. Although the black Gothic gown looks heavy, its tailoring is remarkably exquisite—the cinched waist, the lace splicing along the hem, and the white floral wrist ornaments perfectly balance out the somberness of the black palette, making the overall look stand out even more against the church's white backdrop.
The weather was slightly overcast on the day of the shoot, offering very soft natural lighting. This kind of ambient light is ideal for conveying the subtly melancholic and sacred aura of the EPOQUE Series - "Condolence" Civilight Eterna look. The grey steps in front of the church provided exceptional depth; without needing heavy visual effects, the architecture's symmetrical composition alone already carried rich atmosphere. During the shoot, maintaining facial expression control was paramount—rather than deliberately forcing a sorrowful expression, I strove to project a calm, restrained gaze tinged with quiet relief, truly aligning with the character's emotional state across the story arc.
The makeup for this look did not use overly intense colors; since the pink hair is already eye-catching, I leaned toward earthy tones for the eye makeup to deepen the contours while using shading to accentuate facial dimension, ensuring the character's facial features wouldn't get washed out once post-production effects were added. In handling the details, I paid special attention to the neckline contours and the placement of the hair accessories, as how seamlessly the headpiece fits with the wig directly dictates the overall atmosphere of the photo.
For pose design, we explored several distinct postures: one where I stand quietly in the center of the steps with downcast eyes gazing downward, projecting the serene, static beauty of a guardian; another where my fingertips reach upward as if guiding something, evoking a moment of releasing power or making a proclamation. The final shot is a version enhanced with starlight special effects, where the photographer added constellation lines and fine shimmering stardust in post-processing, instantly elevating the mood from realistic Gothic style photography into a 2D world filled with magic and fantasy. These specks of light scattered across the white wings blended seamlessly with the church's cool-toned white facade.
Regarding the character's inner core behind this work, as a cosplayer, I believe Theresa's existence in Arknights is more than just a game character—she embodies a profound conviction and ideal. That hope that "one day, no one will have to live in fear" imbues this entire piece with seriousness and meaning that transcends the 2D medium. Therefore, I hoped this Cosplay sharing would go beyond just costume replication, successfully conveying the emotional weight rooted in the lore to everyone who views this work.
After wrapping up the shoot, curating and finishing these photos still took plenty of effort. In particular, the effects in the third picture weren't added haphazardly, but were designed according to the astrological trajectory matching the tilt of the body's posture. In cosplay, the synergy between photography, costume, makeup, and post-production is indispensable. In this project, I did my best to execute every detail thoroughly, hoping to deliver a fulfilling and regret-free portrayal of Theresa.
