This photoshoot at the comic convention featured Sakuya Izayoi cosplay from Touhou Project, specifically the well-known head maid in her 'Inu Sakuya' (dog maid) variation.
The convention venue was very spacious with reflective marble flooring. To avoid the cluttered background, the photographer took a low-angle shot looking up, utilizing ambient venue lighting, reflective umbrellas, and cool-toned illumination to maximize the atmosphere, creating a clean, cool, and detached aesthetic. The overall styling combined white animal ears with signature coiled drill curls, white twin-tails, and a lace headpiece.
The costume is packed with details, featuring a white-and-blue color scheme. The top has delicate white lace ruffles layered with a black leather corset underneath, creating a sharp black-and-white contrast. The lower half is a blue-to-white floral gradient long skirt with excellent drape. To maintain a great shape when spinning, a large petticoat was worn underneath.
My favorite part is the leg styling: black fishnet stockings with hollow strappy cutouts paired with chunky black block-heeled platform shoes. The visual contrast between the Black stockings and the white-accented skirt was stunning. Especially during the stool-stepping poses, resting one leg high up directly showcased the long leg lines, and paired with the cutout strap details, it added immense visual tension to the frame.
The equipped prop this time was a pair of long black scissors, which had great texture and substantial weight in hand. Many poses utilized the scissors to create visual depth and distance—such as bringing the scissors close to the lens, or holding them in one hand while shooting a cold, sideways glare. These poses didn't require excessive exertion; simply exploring different angles and leveraging an intense, penetrating gaze was enough to achieve a dashing yet assertive look.
We also experimented a lot during the shoot. With high lighting contrast that day, reflectors were needed to adjust facial shadows. For some backlit shots, such as the one holding scissors while pointing at the camera, the intense cool light beamed directly across, creating a gorgeous halo that enhanced the dreamy feel of the photos.
Being at an anime convention, it was very crowded and noisy, but everyone naturally got into character in front of the lens. These poses actually demanded quite a bit of stamina—especially stepping on high stools, repeatedly spinning the large skirt into shape, and maintaining intense focus in the eyes. Although shooting the entire set was exhausting, seeing the final outcome made every bit of effort completely worthwhile.
