Costume fitting before going to an anime convention is always the moment that exposes the most details, yet it is also the most exciting. This time, I am cosplaying Remilia from Touhou Project, the mistress of the Scarlet Devil Mansion. Trying on this predominantly white dress, my biggest takeaway is that the pannier must be sufficiently stiff to hold up that doll-like curved shape. The entire outfit incorporates a lot of white lace and ruffles, accented with dark red roses and bows, creating a very classic color scheme. The wig has icy-blue straight bangs, paired with red contact lenses to craft that translucent, slightly mysterious eye makeup unique to a vampire mistress. The large red bow and gemstone brooch at the collar are very eye-catching, and the small cherry ornament on the lace bonnet is also very delicate. White tights paired with red Mary Jane shoes visually elongate proportions. This outfit has high requirements for posing; for instance, gently pinching the skirt hem or touching the face enhances the character's tsundere yet elegant temperament. Because the character is designed to be full of charisma and dignity despite having a petite loli build, I paid special attention during the fitting to presenting this contrast through poses and expressions. During shooting, attention needs to be paid to lighting to keep the skin tone fair and translucent, staying closer to the original setting. After trying it on, although the dress looks quite intricate, the sway when walking is fantastic. Make sure to smooth out the skirt pleats properly before heading to the convention; this way, full-body photos will look great, and the mistress's majestic charisma will naturally shine through.
