The photos for this Patchouli Knowledge cosplay are finally sorted out and posted. As the librarian of the Scarlet Devil Mansion's underground library, a lot of effort went into the costume for this look. The overall outfit is a black, purple, and white-themed Gothic Lolita dress, specifically featuring a jacquard fabric with subtle embossed textures, paired with large areas of black matte lace. The sleeves are a wide, puffy flared design, complemented by layers of ruffles. Combined with the fabric's natural drape, it has a very substantial weight when walking, which meant I had to constantly mind and arrange my skirt hem at the convention venue to avoid messing up the look. For the headpiece, I chose an exaggerated large black rose knot and a lavender velvet bow, paired with a cascading purple hair Lolita wig to highlight Patchouli's slightly melancholic yet profoundly mysterious magician aura. For accessories, I specially wore chain glasses, adding an air of an intellectual scholar to the look. The makeup is mainly clean and matte, with a porcelain white matte base to fit her character setting of rarely seeing the sunlight. The shooting process was highly interesting; we specifically found a relatively quiet corner with excellent diffuse reflection from a cold light source. Besides the spellbook, the props included a quill pen and scattered letter paper. The composition when casually interacting with the book actually highly tests a coser's ability to interpret the character's 'reclusive' personality. This cool, lazy, and detached aura of not interacting with the mundane world is precisely where the charm of Patchouli lies. Although the convention was crowded, the moment I crouched down and spread the skirt hem, it felt as if I had truly isolated myself in another space for this Anime cosplay project.
