Today, I documented my full makeup and styling test for Saiba Midori. While preparing this Blue Archive cosplay, dialing in the harmony between the synthetic wig and the eye makeup was definitely the trickiest challenge. Midori's visual design calls for short, pale-blonde hair with blunt straight bangs—a setup that appears deceptively simple on paper, but creating that airy, dimensional 2D anime silhouette on camera demands meticulous care. I selected a heat-resistant synthetic fiber wig with generous hair density, carefully thinning out the crown layers before blow-drying the roots into organic curved volume. The blunt bangs were trimmed right along the brow line and swept delicately toward both temples to avoid a stiff, boxy look, injecting a playful touch of lively charm.

Moving on to cosmetics: the emerald contacts serve as the soulful focal point. To match the character's aura, I chose translucent green lenses with subtle, natural patterning; while modest in diameter, they impart an exceptionally clear, limpid gaze when framed by custom eye makeup. For eyeshadow, I swept a muted soft-pink wash focused primarily across the inner half of the upper lids, drawing a faint, gentle upward flick at the outer lash corners and defining the lower lashes to give the eyes open, radiant sparkle. Blush was applied with heavier saturation under the eyes and across the bridge of the nose to simulate that signature anime flush. On the lips, a sheer pastel pink tint with softly blurred contours preserved a tender, youthful softness. The foundation was kept ultra-lightweight and radiant, bypassing heavy concealers to let natural skin texture breathe.

Regarding the garments and accessories: the ensemble showcases her quintessential green-and-white blocking. Styled as an off-the-shoulder boat neck, the collarline and cuffs are framed with pristine white ruffles—a detail that heavily tests the garment's tailoring. Crossing black satin ribbons cinch across the green-and-white bodice, visually slimming the silhouette, while delicate white shoulder straps enhance visual layering. The crowning highlight is undoubtedly the headpiece: an oversized, vibrant lime-green cat-ear structure mounted on a white headband, embellished with minimalist shut-eye lash motifs, pink cheek blushes, and side-mounted tactical black mechanical greebles. Donning this Cat ear cosplay headband instantly locked in maximum character recognition. The high contrast of green and white pops brilliantly under key lights, and the stretch fabric hugs the body cleanly while the ruffled hemlines flutter with every gentle movement.

For lighting during the test shoot, I relied on large diffusion softboxes to soften facial shadows and fully showcase the cosmetic nuances, tilting the camera into a gentle high angle to emphasize a petite, adorable charm. The entire session—from base foundation to final wardrobe check—took just over two hours, with the wig adjustments alone consuming nearly forty minutes. Because Midori's visual cues are so iconic, nailing the pale-blonde wig, vivid green lenses, and cat-ear structure instantly achieves high fidelity. Throughout the trial, I kept close track of ocular comfort, applying hydrating eye drops beforehand for extended wear. The eyeliner was anchored with a waterproof, smudge-proof gel pencil to prevent migration during posing, and freeze-hold spray locked the wig roots in place against active movement.

Overall, this styling test went remarkably smoothly, hitting every benchmark I had envisioned. Next up, I will scout the ideal sci-fi interior to shoot the official set, aiming to fully capture Saiba Midori's signature blend of endearing cuteness and futuristic tech charm. Each test shoot is ultimately a creative reinterpretation of a beloved character; weaving garments, cosmetics, and props together to step closer to their essence brings immense personal fulfillment.
