My official cosplay photoshoot for The Shorekeeper from Wuthering Waves is finally ready to share! Since I served as both the model and the photographer, I was deeply involved in every single phase of the creative process. From pre-production planning to executing the shoot on set, considerable effort went into translating the character's signature ethereal, otherworldly aura into real-world imagery.
For set dressing, we chose an interior space featuring a colossal stained-glass window, harnessing incoming natural daylight to cast painterly, dappled chiaroscuro effects across the frame. To enrich environmental layering, abundant blue-and-white floral arrangements were arranged around a sleek black grand piano, cultivating a serene, sacred atmosphere. The sprawling floral beds on the floor and around the piano forged a subtle warm-and-cool contrast against the warm palette filtering through the stained glass. In particular, when sunlight beamed through the colored panes and painted prismatic highlights across the deep blue carpet with its golden diamond motifs, the resulting visual impact was breathtaking.
The gown itself features remarkably intricate design and craftsmanship. The bodice is engineered with a snug corset silhouette, densely hand-embroidered with shimmering sequins and elaborate filigree that sparkle brilliantly under studio lights, immediately seizing the viewer's gaze. The deep V-neckline accentuates bodily curves with graceful poise. The skirt features an asymmetrical high-low hemline constructed from stacked layers of ultra-sheer, laser-cut holographic tulle. When backlit, this fabric reveals a delicate iridescent sheen; to unleash its luminous potential to the fullest, we tested numerous lighting angles. Footwear consisted of black patent pointed-toe stilettos paired with a polished silver metallic thigh ring; this juxtaposition of metallic shine and dark footwear created strong visual anchors that visually elongated the leg lines.
On the gear side, I shot with a Sony A7R6 paired with a Sony FE 28-70mm F2 GM lens. This combination delivers formidable resolving power, capturing jaw-dropping detail straight out of camera. The constant F2 maximum aperture ensured ample light gathering in low-light indoor conditions while rendering creamy, natural background fall-off that melted away background clutter to keep the focus sharply centered on the subject. For posing, I transitioned between crossing my legs on the raised steps, leaning against the curved flank of the piano, and seated upon the piano bench. Resting fingertips lightly across the ivories or brushing a hand against the choker chains brought natural fluid grace to the gestures, eliminating any stiffness.
Styling the wig was another vital focal point. To achieve her airy, layered bob, generous amounts of hairspray and meticulous backcombing were required. The cyan-blue fibers appeared luminous under the lights; paired with a white feather hair accessory and cascading translucent ribbons, it enhanced the sense of weightless motion. On the makeup front, I specifically chose reddish-pink cosmetic lenses and kept the palette cool and restrained to honor her canonical aesthetic. Ample highlighters were buffed across the high points of the face, catching the diffused indoor light to create a delicate porcelain-doll complexion.
The entire shoot was undeniably demanding—constantly adjusting reflector bounce angles, alternating between standing and sitting, maintaining strict facial discipline, and ensuring the tulle skirt never suffered wardrobe slips or caught on the metal thigh ring. Yet seeing the final retouched frames made every ounce of effort completely worthwhile. The lighting, color harmonies, sartorial textures, and character immersion converged exactly as envisioned.
