Bringing Cartethyia to life against a dark background, this set of finished photos focuses on portraying the sharpness and elegance of the character holding her glowing weapon. The trickiest part of this look was coordinating the lighting for the glowing longsword; it needed to appear as though it was illuminating the surroundings without overexposing and washing out the light on the character's face, which demanded highly precise lighting angles. The gradient treatment of the wig took quite some time; to prevent the blue at the tips from looking unnatural, I specifically did multiple transition blends during spray-dyeing, letting the blue diffuse from the bottom like water ripples. Wearing the pointed ears also required adjusting the angles multiple times to seamlessly merge with my natural face shape. The weapon prop is not just a simple plastic piece; a lightweight LED strip was added inside, and to control diffuse reflection, the blade was covered with a semi-transparent light-guiding medium. This ultimately allowed the blue light to look fluid like flowing water on camera rather than looking like stiff glitter. In terms of the costume, the combination of black leather straps and large areas of white and blue chiffon realized a visual contrast between hardness and softness, especially during large sword-swinging movements, which allowed the cape to whip up a beautiful arc in the air.
During the shoot, I experimented with several different power-infused movements, ultimately choosing Photo 3 as the cover. The slight twist of the waist and the outspread arms feel like they beautifully recreate her explosive power during battle. The transparent crystal candlesticks in the background were prepared by myself; their faint light shining into the blue-toned set brings out a touch of dreaminess. To present a translucent and wet visual effect, the post-processing mainly handled color grading, making the highlights cooler and the shadows lean toward a deep, profound navy blue, thereby fitting the overall world-view atmosphere of Wuthering Waves. Collaborating through the entire makeup, styling, and shooting process, the details of the props and costume required constant fine-tuning to showcase this screen-transcending state in front of the lens. Honestly, every time I shoot characters with magical attributes for an Anime cosplay session, it requires a lot of thought in both post-production and pre-production setup to handle the fusion points of light and shadow. Especially with the texture of blue tones, it can easily look muddy due to lighting; this time, I specifically used a softbox paired with reflectors to suppress harsh shadows, ensuring the overall texture remained clean and breathable. This serves as a tribute to that chilly sense of combat in the game setting. As an Adult Cartethyia cosplayer, I hope this work expresses my deep love for the character, and I am thrilled to share it as part of the Wuthering Waves Creator Incentive program.
