This coastline filled with tetrapods is the final location selection for my Outdoor shoot this time. The wind by the seaside during the evening Blue Hour was very strong, with moisture permeating the air, giving the entire environment a profound, cool tonal base. Before the shoot, I was actually quite worried that the wind would be too strong to control the skirt hem, but during the actual shoot, I found that this flowing wind conversely became the best dynamic prop, perfectly tracing the layered feel of the tulle within the costume.
The most attractive part of this look for me lies in the refreshing feel of the overall blue-and-white color scheme. The top and skirt hem extensively utilize a combination of semi-transparent gauze texture and white high-gloss fabric splicing, cooperating with the metallic arm rings on both sides of the shoulders and the fine line decorations on the arms to present a quality that is both cool and lightweight in front of the lens. Especially the wide hood on the head aligns beautifully with the light-colored wig, carrying a highly casual agility when the wind blows past. The design details of the costume are exceptionally rich; the cutout tailoring at the waist and the backless design, paired with the multi-layered hem, heavily test the photographer's skills in capturing light and shadow.
Standing on these uneven tetrapods was actually highly challenging because the surface washed by seawater was exceptionally rough and uneven. To recreate the visual texture as much as possible, I chose to go barefoot for the first two photos, letting the skin tone form a powerful visual contrast with the rough, grey-black rocks. This defenseless way of standing added a serene yet slightly fragile artistic conception to the frame. The third picture switched to transparent high-heeled sandals, showcasing different postures through the change of footwear amidst the labyrinth of rocks, making the overall composition more rich and varied.
Regarding the lighting for the photography, the site adopted a cool-toned side-backlight scheme. This lighting method not only cleverly enhanced the reflections along the figure's silhouette and garment edges but also preserved that ghostly blue and mysterious coldness of the surrounding environment. During the post-processing phase, we paid special attention to the transparency of the highlight portions, letting those semi-transparent fabrics look as translucent as frozen seawater without appearing muddy. Meanwhile, to prevent the figure from completely blending into the dim environment, we also made some warm-toned fine-tunings on the skin tone, ensuring the character remains an eye-catching visual focus amidst the frigid background for this Cosplay photography project.
The shoot lasted for about two-plus hours, during which I needed to constantly adjust my posture to match the flow of the wind. Although my body felt exceptionally fatigued after the entire creation session, seeing the dreamy atmosphere interwoven by natural light and synthetic light in the final photos made me feel everything was completely worth it. The charm of an Outdoor shoot lies exactly in the fact that it can never be perfectly duplicated; those long satins blowing up by chance or the gentle breeze brushing past the face are vivid details that studio shoots can never replace. I hope the final photos this time can convey the warmth of that coast you imagined, beautifully documenting this piece of Anime-style photography.
