[Chisa Cosplay] Industrial Girl in Wuthering Waves: A Glancing Back on the Orange Stairs

When originally planning to shoot this fan-art style project of Chisa and Rover from Wuthering Waves, we leaned towards seeking textures in an abandoned industrial area.

The first high-angle top-down shot on the spiral staircase was the best camera position of the day. The photographer picked a tricky angle, looking vertically down from above to frame the spiral orange staircase and white floor markings into a geometric composition. This angle places high demands on leg lines, where long socks and thigh straps were perfectly showcased from this perspective. To stabilize my center of gravity, my standing pose and hand placements were subtly adjusted so I could maintain a downward-gazing eye contact without ruining the clothing's natural drape.

For the second photo in front of an abandoned corrugated iron wall, we focused on environmental storytelling. Rusty pipes, blue graffiti metal sheets, and Zhile's back sitting on the railing gave the entire frame a profound sense of story.

Regarding outfit styling, the sailor suit collar, cross-print accents, and the somewhat bulky loose jacket could easily look frumpy in everyday settings. However, set in an industrial-style abandoned building location, this mix of techwear elements and sailor suit reached a delicate balance. The smoothness of the long straight black wig performed wonderfully under sunlight; to avoid making the strands look stiff, we utilized the afternoon breeze so the hair naturally spread across my chest.

We encountered several challenges during the photoshoot. For instance, the iron treads of the spiral staircase reflected heavily in sunlight, making it easy to end up with crushed blacks or blown-out highlights without proper exposure compensation. We repeatedly tested several metering modes, ultimately selecting the shadow areas as the baseline to preserve shadow details in coat folds and skirt hems. Furthermore, capturing this circular composition was no easy feat, requiring constant adjustment of perspective relationships to avoid visual distortion—thanks to the photographer's patient guidance in composition for our Cosplay photography.

Zhile's positioning in the second picture was very deliberate. Dressed in a tactical jacket and gloves, his posture sitting on the railing crossbar framed the shot nicely, creating a sense of depth from front to back. We didn't intentionally force complex interactive poses; instead, we let him perform his own actions so our gazes extended naturally along the scene. This unforced state often carries more tension than static posing—especially in Cosplay photography at the intersection of ACG and reality, authentic environmental interaction is far more vivid than simply copying official art.

Regarding post-processing color grading: instead of airy soft glow high-keys, we opted for cinematic low-saturation teal and orange tones. The orange stairs and blue industrial walls created a warm-cool contrast, restoring the scene's rugged texture to the greatest extent. For the black straight hair and dark jacket, we preserved shadow layering in HSL so they wouldn't blur into a dark blob. The final output treated this way displays both fabric texture details and allows viewers to feel the visual concept of a \"girl navigating urban industrial ruins.\"

Come to think of it, this is already my third location shoot partnering with Zhile. Shooting outdoors in dilapidated industrial areas always yields unexpected surprises. Ordinary steps become an impactful photo under a high-angle overhead lens; a unremarkable graffiti iron wall transforms into a comic panel when paired with character temperament. I suppose this is the importance of environmental immersion.

Preparing this set from makeup, site scouting, to official shooting took about half a month. The biggest challenge was physical stamina, as walking up and down stairs repeatedly while wearing heavy leather boots and coats meant sweating profusely. But the moment we saw the final photos, all hard work vanished into thin air. I hope these experiences in venue selection and lighting offer helpful references for fellow fans who love this character under the 2D Vision Project and Wuthering Waves Creator Program, helping everyone avoid unnecessary detours during outdoor shoots.
