From hair braid logic to unifying overall color tones, we put considerable effort into pre-production. The golden twin bun braids were intentionally fluffed up to retain the anime character's iconic silhouette, complemented by beast-ear plush hair accessories and small flower hairpins on both sides that matched today's Chinese courtyard setting. For makeup, we abandoned heavy shading and eyeliner, opting for warm apricot and brick-red tones layered across the eyes while adjusting eye contact reflections to enhance gaze vitality—an approach that effectively avoids the aged look common in Ancient style cosplay sessions.

The costume's silhouette and layering are real highlights of this look. A white top paired with salmon-pink and light-red long and short drapes, featuring gold embroidery at the collar and brocade patterns over the shoulders, achieved a fine balance of color contrast and harmony against vermilion pillars and teal window frames. Wide sleeves with cinched wrists allowed graceful drapery when holding round fans. The semi-sheer chiffon skirts cascaded gracefully with every step in the gentle breeze, proving far superior in real-location shoots compared to rigid cottons.

The shoot took place in a traditional historic garden, where light, shadow, and architectural structure yielded incredible shots. Classic pairings of red pillars and green windows, alongside bluestone pavers and rockery stones, instantly animated what would otherwise be a plain backdrop. The session was divided into several stages. We started with close-ups, where the photographer used a medium-telephoto lens and warm natural sunlight to outline facial light-shadow boundaries, preserving skin clarity even under midday rays. Regarding transitions between close-ups and wide shots, we dedicated most of our time to half-body and close-up angles during the shoot, as expressive tension and prop details are far more recognizable for characters of this style than full-body wide shots. However, the wide shots along the corridor intuitively showcased how the standing collar and frog buttons integrated into the overall styling, where red garments paired with traditional architecture imparted a natural visual depth.

Having worked with photographer WiFi many times, he truly knows how to leverage foreground elements and light-and-shadow in the surroundings—such as an intruding withered branch or the framing division of red pillars—giving these photos a narrative depth beyond simple portrait snapshots. During post-processing, we avoided exaggerated color correction, focusing instead on preserving the rich high-saturation red and dark wood ambience of traditional Chinese architecture while moderately dampening highlights for smoother color transitions. To recreate the character's true essence, we studied her witty, clever, and slightly mysterious original traits, subtly adjusting expressions accordingly.

In terms of prop utilization, the interaction between the red thread and the round fan was core to delivering the agility of this Ancient style cosplay look. The tension of pulling the red thread upward combined with focused eye contact anchored viewer attention on upper-body embroidery details and makeup textures. Meanwhile, leaning on the railing with the fan held low across the chest alongside a subtle side-profile angle softened any stiffness from standing poses, rendering the image grounded and intimate. Though the fluttering amplitude of chiffon sleeves in the breeze was hard to control precisely, this unpredictability breathed organic vitality into the photos, lending flat imagery dynamic imaginative flair.

When selecting costume fabrics, we focused heavily on balancing weight and thickness—ensuring outer silhouettes provided ample structure to carry intricate embroidery and bead decorations, while lightweight inner fabrics maintained graceful drape during movement. The red waist ribbon created natural folds when cinched, enhancing body proportions while structurally echoing the background red pillars to prevent the character from getting swallowed by complex traditional architecture, thus locking in the visual focal center. Warm white hair ornaments and pale yellow wigs acted as neutralizing accents against intense red-green primary contrasts, enriching color layering without inducing visual clutter.

We faced minor challenges during the shoot, such as shifting dappled light in the courtyard creating varying reflections off the gold embroidery, requiring continuous repositioning to catch optimal key lighting. Luckily, seamless team coordination made angle adjustments swift. Additionally, keeping hand gestures natural rather than stiff posed a difficulty; finding effortless holds for the fan or red thread in standing compositions allowed shoulders and arms to relax, authentically conveying composed confidence. The overall output vibe matched the envisioned New Year theme seamlessly, blending traditional festive warm tones with the character's innate playful, clever spirit for a deeply satisfying Chinese-style photography session.
