As soon as the prelude to Yuezheng Ling's "Ji Ming Yue" plays, the memories belonging to that era instantly return along with her voice. For this "Liu Yu Jing Que" project, Baby Tianyi and I prepared for a very long time, and now I'm releasing a few of my solo photos first.
Actually, when we first finalized this costume design, we re-evaluated it multiple times. Yuezheng Ling has many classic looks, and this time we hoped to combine some ancient style cosplay artistic conceptions while retaining her fierce yet playful temperament. Therefore, for the clothing material, we specially selected a pink fabric with hidden patterns and a subtle luster. The white patchwork cloth at the collar and the red-and-black checkered square decorative buckles on the chest are highly recognizable details in this styling. To bring out the texture of these two parts, we went through pattern-making several times. I intentionally requested the sleeves and skirt hem to have a heavily draped, scattered style, so that whenever I move, it creates an ethereal, fairy-like sensation. The hair uses a high ponytail with a touch of airiness, paired with blended red-brown eye makeup and lip colors, aiming to visually present a state that is both agile and slightly mysterious.
The shooting backdrop is a dim lotus pond under the moonlight that we specially constructed. A black background is actually the ultimate test for lighting, because we need to make the bright red clothes, the massive gradient pink-and-white prop lotus flower, and that glowing full moon stand out from the black base. The lighting technician arranged key light, side light, and background light in the studio, both to ensure my facial makeup looks clean and to make the hidden patterns on the clothes faintly visible under the light and shadow. The lotus seed pod-shaped round fan and the long lotus leaf stem held in my hand are both important props used to assist composition during the shoot.
In this shoot, my personal favorite is the shot sitting in a wooden boat looking up at the camera. My whole body is surrounded layer by layer by blooming pink lotuses and wide lotus leaves, with a massive full moon emitting a faint glow overhead. To get this composition right, I adjusted my sitting posture many times. Because the edge of the wooden boat is very narrow, I also had to make the skirt hem and the red tulle scattered on the wood distribute naturally. The black stockings are also perfectly revealed from this angle, cooperating with the off-shoulder costume design to add some highly anticipated visual elements while maintaining the character's sense of vitality.
When shooting night-style ancient photos, the biggest taboo is a messy frame. Although our scene has many elements—rockeries, the small boat, flower branches, and lotus leaves—通过 lighting choices, it didn't make the frame look crowded. On the contrary, due to the endless extension of the black background, the cool and desolate atmosphere of that moon becomes purer. When changing poses in the middle of the shoot, those tall lotus branches were always easily bumped into, forcing the photographer to repeatedly help me tidy up the background. I also had to constantly mind the angle of my shoulders to prevent the costume straps from slipping, while maintaining the strength to hold the props. These are areas requiring extreme meticulousness when shooting such a large scene.
This outfit is actually quite heavy, especially with the layered fabrics and wide sleeves, which frequently pulled when turning around and waving hands in the wooden boat. However, looking at the final images, that agile and elegant feeling definitely came through. The shooting experience for solo photos and duo photos is very different; solo photos allow me to immerse myself more focus-dependently into the character's state, conveying that cool, moonlit elf-like feel. For this "Liu Yu Jing Que" project, we put an immense amount of thought into early preparations, hoping everyone likes the final product.
"Who remembers that 'Ji Ming Yue' was sung by Yuezheng Ling?" This kind of nostalgia blast for veteran anime cosplay players is deeply striking. Using a set of ancient style cosplay photos with high character replication to respond to this memory feels exceptionally fitting. The combination of this costume and scene, along with the scheduling of light and shadow, beautifully showcases the dreamy atmosphere that "Liu Yu Jing Que" intends to express. The subsequent duo photos framing together with Baby Tianyi will also have a different chemical reaction; for now, the solo set is released first to pave the way, and the style and keynote of the entire series are basically settled in these few photos.
