Shooting this set of Yin Yue cosplay photos from A Record of a Mortal's Journey to Immortality centered primarily on mastering the nuances of wardrobe, makeup, and props. The silvery-white fabric was distinctive, featuring subtle self-patterned reflections that could easily blow out and lose textural grain under intense studio strobes; thus, early consultations with the photographer focused on positioning dedicated softboxes. The custom long silver-white wig took considerable care to style; to tame flyaways, a touch of styling pomade was applied, pairing with the beast ears and ear ornaments to accentuate the Silver-haired character's lively, agile nature. The blue contact lenses remained comfortable without slipping across the entire session, effortlessly conveying a cool, piercing yet innocent gaze.
Capturing the three photos shared here was a true test of physical endurance. Sitting barefoot on a dark wooden table that was hard and cold, I had to continuously micro-adjust my center of gravity to flatter my leg lines on camera. For the pose in Photo 3—sitting sideways while glancing back over the shoulder—my hand had to firmly steady the prop longsword. The sword carried noticeable heft, requiring constant wrist tension to keep the tip from wobbling, leaving my hand thoroughly exhausted by the end. Nevertheless, this languid yet subtly guarded stance impeccably captured the character's signature demeanor.
Extensive thought went into set design: dark wooden window lattices surrounded by scattered bamboo slips, scroll manuscripts, and celadon artifacts cultivated an antique study ambiance that forged a compelling warm-cool contrast against the silvery attire. Warm yellow ambient backlighting bathed the scene in atmospheric glow, harmonizing with cool-toned facial makeup to lock visual focus squarely onto the character. Working alongside the photographer was effortless; he adjusted camera heights dynamically to match each pose, elongating leg contours to achieve a flattering silhouette. Post-processing honored the organic light and shadow of the raw captures without artificial warping, preserving genuine skin textures. It was a wonderful Ancient style cosplay experience—though the costume took effort to don, the evocative mood made this rare endeavor deeply rewarding.
