I took a stroll around Zhuhai New Soho over the weekend and discovered that it has become incredibly charming and perfect for photography. First, I stopped by GUGUGUGU to browse anime merchandise, then explored the street directly behind it. That backstreet is exceptionally photogenic, with meticulous set details on the vintage taxi and phone booth. For this shoot, I wore a white shirt, a black pleated skirt, and a Black tights outfit, complete with a prop weapon in hand; paired with the vintage street elements, the overall visual harmony was seamless. The photographer mentioned that the ambient lighting here is fantastic, especially around dusk when the red body of the vintage taxi serves as an ideal backdrop. We shot several different styles, including one where I sat on the hood of the vintage taxi with one hand resting on my chin and the other holding a lollipop; the photographer deliberately used a wide aperture to blur the street behind me, which not only highlighted my leg lines but also gave the composition a refined, high-end feel. The shot taken on the steps took advantage of the purplish-blue ambient lighting combined with my prop, creating a relaxed yet subtly dangerous, mature 2D aesthetic. Afterward, we visited a brand-new merch store and a new signature illustration wall, capturing a candid shot of me looking back over my shoulder amidst the crowd. In the evening, we explored the neon-lit streets and the arcade. The neon glow cast over the white shirt and Black tights outfit created amazing texture, and the vibrant arcade lights contrasted nicely with the outfit colors, making every casual snap a great piece of source material. By chance, Zhuhai New Soho was hosting an event, and the staff informed us about an ongoing cosplay Photography competition with a top cash prize of 2,000 RMB. Hearing the contest rules made the photographer super excited, and the shutter didn't stop clicking, as he noted that such an atmospheric setting and styling were tailor-made for entering the competition. While I considered joining as well, seeing the photographer's expert framing and lighting compared to my current beginner level made me realize I still have plenty of room to grow in composition. The entire experience was wonderful; the setting allowed the clothing's texture to shine completely, with the Black tights outfit showing remarkable detail under both outdoor daylight and neon lighting. Overall, this outing gave me a clearer direction for future shoots, inspiring me to make better use of real-world environments to elevate visual layering.
