Since we're on the topic of Surtr, let's talk about this recently shot set of photos.

When cosplaying Surtr, capturing her overall aura is by far the most crucial element. To embody that cool, perilous, yet slightly languid presence, I dedicated extensive thought to the makeup in advance. For the eyes, I chose purple-toned colored contacts layered with reddish-brown eyeshadow to introduce depth, paired with a highly saturated orange-red lip. The wig was trimmed in layers with an intentional touch of messy texture to ensure she wouldn't look like an obedient, delicate character, which, together with the metallic black horns atop my head, instantly projected an overwhelming aura of intimidation.

For the costume, all-black leather fabrics were selected throughout—ranging from the halter-neck fitted corset top to the waist belts and crossbody satchel. To preserve a sharp, structured silhouette, the garments underwent meticulous steaming prior to the shoot. With so many belts and metallic buckles, putting it on and taking it off took quite a bit of effort—especially the black-and-white X-shaped armbands, which had to be strapped tightly enough to avoid sliding down during movements. The black zippered choker at the neck and the red ID card suspended on the chest are iconic, highly recognizable accents of the ensemble. For the lower half, I paired a black mini skirt with sheer Black stockings, finished with long white gloves, forming a striking visual contrast among black, white, and red.

The shooting location was deliberately scouted in an abandoned machinery workshop. The entire set was crisscrossed with intricate steel girders, scaffolding, and thick black cables tangled together. To complement this heavy-industry ruin aesthetic for Industrial style photography, the ambient illumination on set was primarily drenched in intense red atmospheric light, with overhead tube fixtures softened with a subtle yellow tint to enrich the textural depth between red and black tones.

Shooting in such an environment meant that calibrating poses and expressions was the ultimate challenge. The metallic frameworks made the space extremely cramped, where even a slightly awkward sitting posture looked stiff on camera. I experimented with leaning forward slightly while holding an unflinching direct gaze into the lens, utilizing light highlights glinting off my face and leather garments to emphasize an imposing pressure. When showcasing leg lines, I avoided deliberately fragile postures, instead preserving Surtr's coiled tension of being ready for combat at any moment. Because the red hair's saturation could easily blend into the red lighting backdrop, we incorporated side-backlighting during shooting to cleanly carve the silhouette away from the cluttered environment, dramatically enhancing the frame's dimensional depth.

It's fair to say that from initial preparation to final delivery, every single detail in this photoshoot was tailored to draw as close as possible to that formidable and solitary figure in this Role-playing game.
