Interpreting the emotional bond and intricate inner worlds between Cartethyia and Fleurdelys was the central focus of this photoshoot. Because the costumes and props demanded high-end textures, the entire shooting process was filled with creative challenges. In particular, the pointed headpieces with thorn motifs, along with the multi-layered cutouts along the waist and skirt hems, required considerable time to adjust and fit.
During the shoot, to channel a regal, mature aura, we dedicated extensive care to setting up cool blue lighting, striving to recreate that chilling, ethereal presence. Photographer Yu Hen was exceptionally patient, guiding us to capture that 'embracing fear' tension, which strongly resonated with my personal interpretation of the character's psyche. The duo interaction shots were especially delicate—such as nestling together while gazing downward into a mirror—demanding synchronized breathing and maintaining a cool, detached gaze.
The solo shots presented another major hurdle: I had to vigorously toss the blue sheer veil to create dynamic motion while highlighting the cutouts at the waist, balancing subtle allure with fierce composure under the blue lighting. To capture the exact second when the blue veil reached its most breathtaking arc, we repeated the toss countless times. My arms were aching, yet the process felt intensely liberating.
Working with my partner Nian Meng was completely seamless; we swiftly found the right eye contact for poses that portrayed fierce protection and fateful connection. Set amidst blue lights, pearl strands, white roses, and Roman columns, every element aligned to maximize an ambiguous, elegant, yet dangerous atmosphere. This professional collaboration deepened my connection to these characters beyond physical recreation—it was about feeling the authentic emotions wrapped within their thorny armor.
