I recently shot this outdoor photoset of Tushan Rongrong, and it happened to be a rainy day during the shoot. In this kind of low-light and dim environment, if you want to capture a Mori style texture with sunlight penetrating through the woods, the reliance on flash units will be exceptionally high. This time, I mainly used two Godox AD200 units, paired with a Sony A7M4 and a Sigma 85mm f/1.4 lens.

This equipment combination performs very solidly in terms of background blur and subject sharpness. For the lighting setup, I made a small design: the main light source was placed behind and to the side of the model, shining down from a 4.8-meter-high light stand, equipped with a 3/4 CTO gel and a standard reflector to simulate the backlit warm tone of the sun piercing through tree leaves. This lighting method not only outlines the animal ears and hair contours but also gives the frame a breathable feel. For the front fill light, I chose a 90cm octagonal softbox, mainly used to brighten the facial and clothing shadow details, allowing us to capture a bright and translucent feeling on a rainy day while preventing the image from looking messy or dirty.

The shooting location was selected in a wooded area opposite Wenjiang Agricultural University. Here, there are not only dense foliage but also a fallen tree covered in moss. This naturally formed scenery is simply tailor-made for a Mori style outdoor photoshoot. I had the model sit on the fallen log or lean against tree branches, making the poses as natural and lazy as possible to fit the character's gentle yet agile temperament. The sleeves of this costume are very large; during posing, she could hold the cuffs or rest them on the branches, which increases the linear extensibility of the frame. The makeup also followed a casual and light style, paired with light green hair and a pale yellow short jacket. Against the large green forest background, the color texture was exceptionally harmonious.

During the shooting process, controlling the light was actually quite a test. Because the light decays quickly in rainy weather, the power output of the backlit main light needs careful balancing between the subject's silhouette and the background's light-dark contrast. Combined with the front softbox, there was basically no need for heavy secondary light source processing in post-production. Using an 85mm prime lens for this kind of half-body and close-up close-up shot offers great advantages, as it compresses the background nicely and avoids messy elements in the forest. This work is also an attempt to use flash to create the feeling of natural light, counting as a relatively successful real-world outdoor practice for rainy days in our anime-style photography or cosplay photoshoot records.
