Styling the fluffy beast ears consumed considerable time. To ensure they stood erect and hugged the head contour naturally without looking fake, internal custom armatures and a hidden headband were installed. The golden-blonde short wig also demanded great patience: the iconic tuft of ahoge sticking up at the crown was secured with hair gel to keep it from wilting under studio heat. For makeup, I emphasized rosy cheeks paired with emerald-green contact lenses to channel Susu's endearing, wide-eyed innocence. Eye makeup was kept light and clean rather than heavy. During studio shooting, a solid minimalist backdrop proved fantastic, allowing full focus to remain on the intricate garments.

Posing with that giant rainbow lollipop, I constantly tapped into Susu's signature blend of endearing clumsiness and resolute determination. In the shot with hands on hips, I imagined Susu proudly declaring her dream of becoming the greatest matchmaker of all. Cosplaying for me goes far beyond putting on pretty clothes for nice pictures; it is an immersive journey to understand and inhabit a character. Before shooting, I re-watched the anime to internalize her vocal cadence and micro-expressions. While the outfit looks gorgeous, it ran incredibly hot—especially the flowing multi-layered sleeves—requiring frequent makeup touch-ups under the continuous studio lighting.

Yet every time I saw the raw previews on the camera display, all the exhausting effort felt justified. The hours poured into prop crafting and makeup trials turned into fine tangible textures in the final images. The fringe bangs were trimmed repeatedly to frame my face, and scouting the right green contacts took ages—too dark looked mature, while too light lacked soulful vibrancy. Interior lighting was crucial: the lighting technician deployed softboxes to ensure an even, soft wash that made the garment dyes pop vividly. We avoided heavy post-production VFX to preserve the authentic, tactile essence of the subject.

What moves me most about Tushan Susu is her sheer perseverance. She may seem petite and lack powerful magical prowess, yet her aspiration toward being a true matchmaker is utterly pure. In pose design, I aimed to reflect that harmless yet vibrant energy. Another highlight was the clothing's layered complexity: pink on the outside, baby blue underneath, with purple and teal spliced into the cuffs. Wearing it required fastening layer upon layer, cinching the red waist cord snugly to accentuate the waistline. Blending anime aesthetics with rich traditional Chinese elements restricted fluid movement; for instance, hands-on-hips easily caused the broad sleeves to slip down, requiring my elbows to discreetly clamp them to maintain crisp drape. The lollipop prop was store-bought, and its glossy cellophane caused specular reflections that demanded repeated angle tweaks.

Looking back at this shoot, I am most proud of the overall color interplay—the bold clash of pink, purple, and blue delivers high visual impact. The props and garment details hold up remarkably under close-up inspection. Every cosplay prep is a fresh voyage of creation, and recreating a beloved character from scratch brings immense fulfillment. I can't wait to tackle even more challenging characters in the future.
