Today, this finished Tushan Susu cosplay photo set finally meets fellow fans. This time I portrayed Tushan Susu from Fox Spirit Matchmaker, a spirited and endearing character.
Let's talk about the costume and styling first. Susu's pink-and-white outfit seems deceptively simple, but wearing it properly requires attention to detail. The inner base layer has wide white sleeves, while the outer garment is a pink vest cut. The waist sash was adjusted repeatedly to hug the silhouette comfortably while retaining a breezy, floating drape. The bloomers and white plush boots were custom-made; to match the character design, I deliberately tucked the pant legs into the boots to enhance the rounded, soft aesthetic.
The wig and beast ears were the highlights of this styling. The golden wig was trimmed with blunt straight bangs and twin tails, while the iconic looped ahoge on top was secured using transparent monofilament and wire. To ensure it remained upright from every camera angle, hidden bobby pins were anchored underneath. The white beast ears on both sides took considerable time to position properly; only when aligned at a specific angle along the cranial curve do they look organic rather than merely glued on.
For props, I prepared crimson candied hawthorns. Honestly, tracking down picture-perfect candied hawthorns near the woods wasn't easy, so I bought two skewers to play up her foodie persona. In the lakeside set, I carried an aged antique booklet to simulate the Red Thread Fairy's sacred heavenly mission registry.
The weather offered beautiful sunshine on shoot day, so we chose a venue with towering trees and open water. Sunbeams filtered through the leafy canopy, casting dappled light across the fabric and face, harmonizing with the natural forest photoshoot mood. In the first shot, I leaned against a rough tree trunk, holding candied hawthorns in both hands while gazing up; because the bark was rigid, keeping a poised posture meant engaging my core without resting fully on the trunk. In the second shot, I sat sideways on the ground, raising a skewer of candied hawthorns in one hand and looking back toward the lens—a pose requiring relaxed shoulders to bring out playful charm. The third shot was by the water; waiting for calm water to capture a glass-like reflection kept us crouching on the rocks for quite some time, and that closed-eye resting expression was genuine fatigue setting in. The fourth photo of leaping while holding balloons came as an unexpected triumph; we shot over twenty bursts before nailing a frame where the twin tails fluttered, feet cleared the ground, and posture remained flawless. The final shot sitting on a broad tree fork was quite the workout, having to climb up while shielding the styled wig.
When doing cosplay photography, capturing natural motion and authentic demeanor matters far more than just wearing the clothes. To give the eyes expressive life, I observed the daily gestures of kittens and puppies, adopting subtle animalistic posturing to channel the cuteness of an animal-eared girl. Between takes, the photographer reminded me to tuck my chin slightly and cast my gaze upward to emphasize wide-eyed innocence.
I am genuinely pleased with this photo set; it captures not just her look, but also Susu's endearing journey toward her memories—at times puzzled, yet always upbeat and sunny. Deep thanks to the hardworking photographer and support crew. See you all at our next shoot!
