[Remilia Scarlet cosplay] Touhou Project: The Eternally Scarlet Young Moon, Convention photos

This set of Convention photos features Remilia Scarlet from Touhou Project. A lot of preparation went into this convention shoot, with the main challenge being balancing the red contact lenses and blue wig, along with makeup designed to reflect the chilly aloofness characteristic of a vampire. The outfit consisted of a pinkish-white lace ruffled dress with red ribbons, topped off with massive black bat wings. The wings were the most exhausting part—being fairly heavy, carrying them around all day left my shoulders sore, and there was always a risk of bumping into passersby.

The convention venue was crowded with chaotic lighting, so to capture that dark gothic atmosphere, we shot against darker corners whenever possible. The photographer was a huge help, using a harsh beam of light aimed directly at my face to make the red eyes intensely translucent against heavy shadows, perfectly matching the character's slightly dangerous and arrogant aura. We prepared three props in total: a red umbrella, a vintage lantern, and a red staff. The red umbrella primarily blocked stray light or served as foreground; the lantern emitted a warm yellow glow that added tactile depth to the composition; and the red staff was used for posing, complementing a straight back and red waistband to accentuate body lines on camera.

As these are Convention photos, we avoided heavy post-processing, focusing instead on authentically preserving the on-site light, shadows, and colors. To complement these props, hand gestures needed to remain elegant, especially with extra-long sharp red stiletto nails that easily snagged on the skirt's lace or made gripping props slippery, causing a few accidental drops. While the red eyeshadow and bold red lips looked slightly exaggerated in person, they balanced out nicely on camera with the red accents of the dress. The visual contrast between blue hair and red eyes was striking and instantly recognizable in a crowd.

The shoot lasted about half an hour, constantly rotating between the umbrella, lantern, and staff. Holding the lantern lent itself to mystical poses, while wielding the staff called for a commanding, aggressive gaze staring straight into the lens. With a puffy hemline, I had to watch my steps constantly to avoid tripping. Big thanks to the photographer for patiently guiding positions in the noisy hall and capturing those perfectly timed expressions. My favorite shot of the set is the one with the staff—not only is it nicely centered, but the medium close-up also showcases both the body silhouette and costume structure cleanly. Despite tired arms and fingers, bringing this Vampire girl from the Scarlet Devil Mansion to life in such an environment made it a truly rewarding and delightful experience.
