[Kasumizawa Miyu Cosplay] Blue Archive: Sailor Suit Style Interpreted Through Bright and Translucent Highlight Photography

This time, I'm sharing my Kasumizawa Miyu Cosplay from Blue Archive. From the moment we confirmed this look, the early prep focused mainly on pairing the wig and colored contact lenses. Supported by a headband, the deep navy twin-tails required solid styling; otherwise, the heavy hair would easily look flat. The headpiece was relatively large, so to preserve the cuteness in the character design, I reinforced it with several bobby pins. Choosing the diameter of the red contacts was crucial—they needed to enhance the eyes without looking cartoonishly exaggerated or jarring. The lenses chosen offered great translucency under lighting and were comfortable enough for a long shoot.

For the outfit, this sailor suit cosplay dress serves as the core of fidelity. The white base accented with light blue stripes and the vibrant orange neckerchief at the collar provide an eye-catching splash of contrast for the upper body. The custom 'RABBIT' badge on the cuff adds signature character authenticity. The skirt hem features rich tiered layering; when shooting seated poses, the flared ruffles gave the image substantial visual volume while naturally flattering the thigh proportions with its puffy silhouette in this Anime-style fashion look.

To create an atmosphere true to her personality, we experimented with bright, high-key highlight photography lighting. In the first composition, I rested my chin on my hand while flashing a peace sign to convey a slightly naive yet playful everyday feel. This pose requires lowering the shoulders naturally so the hand and face form a balanced visual focal point. The seated crouch on the rug in Photo 2 leaned into a more relaxed mood; stepping barefoot onto the soft white plush rug felt incredibly cozy, and the delicate white ankle strap added a refined accent while emphasizing slender ankle contours. Photo 3 featured a standing posture holding a booklet resembling an event guide, capturing a candid feel of walking through a convention hall while showcasing the outfit's overall proportions and the natural drape of the necktie.

During the shoot, I paid special attention to maintaining relaxed posture. Often, cosplayers subconsciously tense up to project a character's aura, resulting in stiff movements. I consciously kept myself relaxed, allowing the placement of my hands and extension of my legs to follow natural seated habits rather than forcing exaggerated curves. The actual studio environment was rather dim, but lifting the shadows in post-production through highlight photography techniques made the white fabric and blue stripes look luminous and translucent, giving the skin a gentle glow and creating a refreshing harmony between the light blue skirt and the white plush rug.

Wig styling is always the most tedious part before heading out. The two antenna hair ornaments on top needed support without looking like rigid metal rods, so I padded the inside with a partial hairpiece to provide structural volume. The curvature of the twin-tails was also curled and set in advance to catch clean highlights under top lights without appearing stiff. Between takes, I lightly combed the bangs to maintain their airy volume and natural shape on camera.

Regarding the fine cord at the ankle and barefoot details: though minor, they guide the viewer's eye nicely within this costume's proportions, adding a sense of extension and drawing visual weight downward from the upper body to prevent the silhouette from looking bulky. What stood out most during shooting was holding these poses while keeping facial expressions composed, which demanded noticeable core strength. In particular, the side-sitting pose in Photo 2 required keeping the spine straight, legs staggered front-to-back, and the instep gracefully arched on the rug. Challenging as it was, the final photos met all my expectations.

The design ingenuity of this costume is wonderful: while embracing cute sailor suit cosplay aesthetics, the contrasting orange scarf and red contacts provide distinctive character trademarks. In front of the camera, I aimed for a quiet, slightly aloof aura with relaxed expressions. Color-wise, the blue-and-white base and orange-yellow accents balanced harmoniously for a crisp visual appeal. The overall goal was to stay true to the character's innate cuteness while infusing a touch of personal flair for visual elegance. Next time I wear this Anime-style fashion set, I might pair it with simple, solid-colored leather shoes to explore an entirely different mood.
