Shooting outside the convention venue under the intense UV rays of a midsummer afternoon, facing this massive inflatable donut, my immediate reaction was to get into character and dive into the shoot. The outfit selected this time perfectly matched the summer outing theme—a clean white cropped tank top layered with a color-blocked windbreaker jacket, paired with a classic pleated mini skirt, creating crisp and neat lines. Combined with a gradient blue wig and a casual sun visor hat with a transparent brim, I added a few of my own styling ideas on top of faithfully recreating the character. The megaphone prop carried along was an essential interactive element in the frame; it not only balanced the visual weight brought by such a large Donut prop, but also made solo poses feel much more natural.
To avoid harsh shadows caused by intense overhead sunlight during the shoot, we chose the boundary between building recesses and open ground, utilizing the crisp quality of the light to accentuate the subject's contours and garment textures. To convey a summer vibe, I frequently adjusted my body language—such as holding the donut overhead to simulate blocking the sun, or striking playful one-legged poses. I also tried laying the donut flat on the ground, sitting right in the center indent while holding the megaphone with eyes closed, creating an immersive, leisurely feel.
Fabric choice was crucial for an outdoor shoot; the windbreaker's breathability and the white fabric's light reflectance were great, keeping me from feeling stifled despite prolonged sun exposure. Clogs paired with white socks on my feet were a clever touch balancing comfort and styling, making walking on the concrete outside the expo hall all day much easier on the feet. Furthermore, to create a visual contrast with the high-saturation red donut, the outfit predominantly used cool and neutral tones, making the overall color coordination much more visually pleasing.
Because the prop was relatively large and could easily throw off visual balance, I paid careful attention to negative space and composition—such as using low-angle upward shots to amplify the visual impact of the prop, or using the donut's center hole as a foreground frame to center the subject. These attempts across different angles aimed to bring out the lively and sunny aspects of the character's personality. Naturally, the convention venue background was quite bustling; being able to focus before the camera and perform these slightly exaggerated poses in full public view was truly a boost in confidence for this Blue Archive cosplay.
The prop's material held up remarkably well outdoors—the firmness after inflation was just right with a soft sheen, making the colorful sprinkle decorations pop vibrantly. When sorting through the raw shots, the photographer also praised this high-brightness, high-saturation combination for its high yield in outdoor conditions, sweeping away the summer restlessness. Although it was blazing hot on the day of the shoot, getting such satisfying Convention photos after pouring my heart into it made every bit of hard work completely worthwhile.
