When I first received this Vodyanitsa cos costume, my immediate reaction was that the accessories were far more intricate than imagined. Beginning with the fabric selection, to capture that translucent and fantastical texture, we experimented with several combinations of tulle for the skirt layers and dark-striped fabric for the lining. The turquoise-green wig required delicate layering so that the curved bangs would drape gently across the eyes; paired with the white floral hair ornaments on either side, the character's sprightly essence came right to life.

For the makeup, I focused on maintaining a dewy, clear base. Icy-blue contact lenses were the soul of the look, complemented by a glossy, juicy orange lip tint, aiming to express Vodyanitsa's unique blend of sweetness and subtle mystique before the lens. The costume boasts endless fine details—the lace high collar and cascading metallic pendants required constant adjustment between takes to keep from tangling. Those exaggerated white puff sleeves posed a real challenge to movement: raising an arm even slightly could easily obscure my face, so I utilized them as extensions of my gestures instead, lifting an arm high overhead or resting it along the bench to build dimensional depth into the frame.

I put considerable thought into the styling of the lower body as well. Alongside the slit in the skirt, I accessorized with a pearl anklet accented by a turquoise gemstone. To match this fairy-like, ethereal aesthetic, I chose to shoot barefoot throughout, perching on a white wrought-iron bench with teal nail polish that echoed the overall color palette. The venue was a European palace interior where the filigree carved archways in the background and a crystal chandelier on the left established wonderful grandeur. Surrounding arrangements of blue and white hydrangeas, roses, and violet blossoms kept the scene vibrant and warm against the cool palette.

To ensure a gentle, cool-white glow fell over my silhouette, we repositioned the reflectors and softboxes multiple times. Because the costume incorporates highly reflective fabrics—especially the metal hardware and satin ribbons—the lights had to be positioned away from direct glare to avoid blown-out hotspots. To showcase the tailoring, I tested multiple seated and standing poses. Leaning back slightly on the white bench with legs gracefully crossed allowed the drape of the gown and the lines of my legs to shine completely. For the standing pose of lifting the skirt, engaging my core helped fan out the hemline, creating the impression of a breeze sweeping past.

Although the sheer complexity of the costume made the shoot physically demanding, seeing the final images made every bit of preparation worthwhile. Vodyanitsa as a character is inherently darling, and her design beautifully unites innocence with opulence. Reinterpreting these details through my own vision was a truly delightful creative journey.
