[Sakiko Toyokawa cosplay] First Encounter in the Spring Rooftop Garden

During early discussions with the photographer for this rooftop garden set, we established Backlit photography with foreground bokeh as our main visual tone. On the day of the shoot, the sunlight was intense with high contrast. To preserve the vibrant hues of the turquoise-green railings and surrounding pink blooms while avoiding overexposing the face, I worked with the photographer to use a reflector from the front, later adjusting local lighting ratios in post-production. To recreate the character's cool detachment, the eye makeup focused on elongating eye shapes, using light-colored contacts to give a more ethereal gaze, with highlighters applied along the bridge of the nose, inner corners of the eyes, and cheekbones to create translucent skin under direct sunlight. For the hairstyle, this light blue wig had its bangs and sidelocks carefully trimmed and secured with two white ribbon bows.

Throughout the shoot, I utilized the turquoise bridge railings as leading lines for both foreground and background, stretching the spatial depth of the composition. The photographer employed 50mm and 85mm large-aperture lenses to render the background foliage and distant architecture in soft, creamy bokeh. My poses mostly consisted of leaning against railings, reaching out toward the camera, or lowering my head slightly in contemplation. Wearing a grey plaid miniskirt without pantyhose required careful posing—avoiding wardrobe mishaps while naturally showcasing calf lines and skirt silhouettes through organic sitting and standing postures, complemented by white ankle socks and black Mary Jane shoes.

The most pleasant surprise during this location shoot was the interplay of dappled tree shadows and sunlight, casting mottled patterns across my skirt and face as sunlight filtered through the leaves. As the session progressed and we grew more attuned to the composition and lighting, we captured a few rays piercing directly through flower bushes to illuminate my eyes. Combined with color temperature adjustments in post-processing, the overall visual achieved a soft, subtly cool and misty aesthetic. To nail the ideal backlit effect, both the photographer and I repeatedly shifted angles to ensure flare spots fell just right across the face. We also explored bench perspectives, which provided gorgeous rim lighting that harmonized beautifully with the surrounding floral blooms.

For this type of character, external coolness is merely the shell—inner emotion is the true soul. Therefore, I constantly reminded myself not to stare directly into the lens, but rather maintain a subtle sense of detachment. Traveling specifically to the rooftop garden for an on-location shoot presented greater challenges for makeup durability and light control, yet these uncontrollable factors gave every shutter click a unique vitality. Looking at the turquoise iron bridge, water lilies, and pink roses complementing the character's light blue hair under natural sunlight, everything felt impeccably balanced. This shoot was not only an in-depth recreation of the character for MyGO!!!!! Anime pilgrimage, but also built valuable natural light photography experience, making the entire journey truly meaningful.
