On the first day of BW 2026, the venue was already packed to the brim. Right after ticket check-in, I headed straight to our prearranged shooting zone to prep for Runami Yachiyo's Convention photos. To ensure a smooth shoot, I was up late organizing gear the night before. The wig was a custom-made long white straight piece; the two circular white tubular ornaments atop the head served as the core anchor of the entire silhouette. To secure them firmly to the wig, multiple concealed bobby pins and internal supports were built in.

The costume featured a deep blue wafuku silhouette with wide sleeves, finished with bold red piping along the collar and cuffs, while the belt patterns and pale blue geometric square motifs along the hemline faithfully recreated the canon design. Underneath was a purple thin-strapped camisole base, paired on the bottom with light teal-green polka-dot Stockings (tights). The fabric's elasticity was clearly noticeable while walking or crouching for poses, keeping the leg contours crisp under the lights—one of the look's most visually striking features. In hand, the large red paper umbrella and the flat pink plushie prop were both indispensable staples for channeling this character.

Working with photographer @星雅XYA before the backdrop, we continually dialed in the lighting. The goal was to carve out a pocket of serenity for the character amidst the bustling convention noise, so strong frontal key lighting was used to detach the subject from the background, letting the blurred convention crowds and dappled bokeh generate rich narrative depth. While crouching in the hall, balancing the umbrella's weight alongside arranging the skirt drape required constant adjustment: tilting the umbrella shaft even slightly would cast shadows across my face, so I continuously micro-adjusted my hand placement to capture the most effortless poses, yielding finished shots with wonderful texture.

The foot traffic at BW was immense, leading to many fun encounters with fans who recognized the character. Although the heavy skirt and wig made things quite warm, interacting with fellow attendees was a delight. This Runami Yachiyo ensemble boasts powerful color contrast—deep navy, bright crimson, pure white, and vivid pink—bringing intense visual impact. That juxtaposition between traditional Japanese elements and modern convention bustle is precisely what makes this character design so compelling. With so many onlookers snapping pictures, I kept refining my posture to ensure the red umbrella and pink plushie held harmonious spots in the frame without cluttering the composition.

From test lighting to the wrap of shooting, the session took about two hours, cycling through several camera angles—including low-angle perspectives chosen specifically to accentuate the multi-layered skirt. Though tiring, previewing the shots on the camera screen proved all the groundwork was worth it. The fabric is rather substantial, posing quite a test in areas where venue air conditioning ran thin, yet achieving the final imagery justified every effort. If a fitting location opens up later, I'd love to capture an outdoor night shoot, as the red umbrella's presence in low-light environments hasn't been fully explored yet. This BW trip wrapped up with a perfect finale, leaving me with stunning frames and wonderful memories.
