The makeup and wearing of my main hero have finally been adjusted to a satisfying state. When shooting this Midsummer Night's Dream look, my main energy was placed on the light weight of the hair strands and the translucency of the makeup. To simulate that dreamy, ethereal atmosphere, I intentionally thinned the wig and used hairspray along with an on-site electric fan to create a messy feel when a gentle breeze blows. At that time, the photographer captured many moments of hair strands suspended in mid-air, making the overall styling look more alive.
For the makeup, I didn't choose intense colors, as I hoped the final visual would better fit the character's sense of being an elf and her ethereal quality. The eyeshadow used an extremely light earth-toned base layer, stacked with delicate pearlescent sequins, combined with deep blue colored contacts to reinforce the depth of the gaze. The light on the day of the shoot was actually a bit harsh, but a soft glow filter was added during post-processing, giving the skin tone a translucent, hydrated radiance, which better fits the character's original ethereal setting for this Elf cosplay.
The details on the costume were also a key focus. I personally micro-adjusted and reinforced those intricate golden patterns, the black splicing at the neckline, and the blue gemstones embedded on the armbands to ensure that no deformation or displacement occurred during dynamic candid shots. To fit the character's body shape, the width and tightness of the armbands were modified twice to guarantee they wouldn't pinch the skin or drop when raising my arms.
During the shooting process, a total of six different angles and compositions were attempted, including the melancholy of looking up at the sky, the gentleness of lowering the head and turning slightly, and the moments of reaching out to touch the prop butterflies and falling petals. Personally, I believe the focus of the gaze and the relaxation of the hand movements are crucial throughout the shoot, and must not look stiff at all. In terms of posture design, to maximally restore that classical ethereal physique, the shoulders need to sink slightly and relax while elongating the neckline. Although moving around the flower bushes in this complex outfit had many limitations, the final light and shadow effects of the photos and the addition of special effect butterflies in post-production gave the entire set a powerful sense of premium quality.
Being able to objectify a beloved main character often benefits from perfect cooperation with the photographer. We discussed over a dozen possibilities for light refraction on-site, and finally decided to use a dark-colored background to highlight the character's silhouette, supplemented by blue prop butterflies and falling purple wisteria flowers to enrich the environmental layers. During post-processing, I also specifically reminded the editor to avoid over-smoothing the skin, preserving the details at the base of the eyelashes and the authentic texture of the skin. I hope to present not just a surface skin, but a clash between a real human with a sense of breathing and the character. This work is the expression of my sincerity towards my main hero in Cosplay photography.
