[Yuyuko Cosplay] Classical Fantasy and Airy Elegance in Touhou Youyoumu ~ Perfect Cherry Blossom

While shooting this set of Yuyuko photos, thoughts about observations of the Touhou fan community over the years kept floating through my mind. As fellow fans say, works like Embodiment of Scarlet Devil and Touhou Youyoumu ~ Perfect Cherry Blossom are entry points for many casual fans and have the widest reach. In recent years, the popularity of Touhou Project cosplay shares on Xiaohongshu has remained unabated, with Reimu ("Red-and-White") and Yuyuko appearing with very high frequency. Reimu, as the primary playable character, holds an unshakeable popularity both inside and outside the community. However, regarding popularity poll rankings, I've seen many discussions over the years; people's aesthetics and voting preferences are indeed evolving with time, and one can feel the community becoming more diverse.

Speaking of this outfit, a lot of thought went into it from prep to final shots. The soft, fluffy texture of the pink wig, paired with the iconic red curved motif on the headpiece, instantly caught the character's essence. The costume features a Lolita-style white and blue palette, with intricate lace edging and ruffles along the collar and cuffs. Accentuated by a pearl necklace, the layered feel of the long skirt and paired White stockings effectively elongated the visual silhouette.

For the set design, we specially built a studio space with a retro Oriental charm. The background featured woven bamboo roll-up blinds with cursive calligraphy scrolls hanging behind, adding a lot of Chinese Zen elegance to the image. A low table held a wooden tray filled with bright red and green grapes, alongside a blue miniature pavilion ornament and a wooden floor lantern in the corner; this combination made the frame feel rich and full without seeming sparse. Flower arrangements with faux cherry blossoms and white blooms were chosen as foreground elements, with a wide aperture creating a clean background blur.

This shoot mainly aimed for a languid and dreamlike aura, employing high-key lighting alongside soft tulle and white lace to give the whole image a self-luminous glow. My favorite is the seated pose in Photo 4—body slightly angled, hand reaching toward the fruit plate, skirt hem spreading naturally to highlight details of the White stockings and shoes, presenting a very relaxed state. The close-up lying pose, with its misty haze from white highlights, also had a celestial feel. But from a cover photo perspective, a composition like Photo 4, which balances the full outfit, leg lines with White stockings, and an graceful posture, is much more appealing, fully displaying the texture of this Yuyuko Cosplay. Touhou Project has so many rich characters; trying different looks every time lets me feel the charm of the characters themselves. As both the photographer and model, bringing this 2D ethereal floatiness down into real-world settings is inherently a truly fun experience.
