[Marisa Kirisame cosplay] The Witch in Touhou Project: Another Use for a Broom

Focusing on this Touhou Project fanon styling of Marisa Kirisame, I'm sharing the details and specific impressions of this photoshoot. The layers of this Lolita outfit are exceptionally rich, with a color scheme centered around black, white, and pink. The massive black lace shawl on the outside paired with tiered ruffled edges gives a strong sense of weight; to support this silhouette, considerable effort went into the inner lining and petticoat. During shooting, my main goal was to highlight the witch's subtly hazy, vintage aura.

For props, the broom and jack-o'-lantern were the soul of the shoot. In fact, this broom isn't suited for wide swinging motions as that would disrupt the skirt's silhouette, so it served primarily as an anchoring point for poses. For example, leaning against the broom, or as shown in the fourth photo, gripping the handle with one hand and leaning forward slightly to better showcase the leg lines and white lace socks as a White stockings girl aesthetic. The white lace socks paired with black Mary Jane shoes pop vibrantly within this vintage color scheme while flattering leg contours. We experimented with many poses—standing straight tends to look stiff, so I shifted my center of gravity or slightly lifted the skirt hem, using the flaring skirt to inject dynamic energy into the frame.

Set design was the key to this shoot's success; we selected a room featuring a vintage wooden pump organ, a sewing machine, and a rocking chair. Natural light from the window filtered through patterned curtains to create soft diffuse reflection, forming a dream match with the lace textures of this Lolita outfit. Furthermore, the rocking chair was an essential prop; sitting in it allowed the skirt to spread out naturally, capturing an exceptionally elegant seated posture. As a piece of Vintage photography, lighting was not overly bright, preserving a dim, warm tone to endow the images with rich narrative storytelling.

As a cosplayer, handling intricate outfits and heavy wigs is routine, yet adjusting the collar bow still required immense patience every time. Though this look restricted mobility, the resulting photos were thoroughly satisfying. The entire shooting process was delightful—the vintage piano and red roses on the table made me feel transported into a magical cottage from another dimension. Overall, this set successfully achieved both character fidelity and fanon reinterpretation in both composition and detail presentation.
