This Shimoe Koharu cheerleader uniform had actually been sitting in my closet for quite a while. I hadn't found a venue that truly matched her vibe until now, when we booked this lifelike school locker room and equipment room, finally allowing me to bring this look to life properly.
Let's talk about the costume details first. The white baseball cap combined with the iconic pink circular halo on top and the black wings on both sides took quite a bit of effort to assemble. The hardness and weight of the wings were just right, nicely supporting the character's dimensional silhouette. The top features a white-and-pink spliced sailor-collar design accented with a black bow tie, which, combined with the crop top style, retains the campus vibe while adding a playful touch. The lower half features a pleated miniskirt paired with white over-the-knee white stockings and white sneakers, creating a refreshing pink-and-white color palette that looks exceptionally clean.
Regarding the shooting environment, huge thanks to photographer Bingbing Hongcha. We chose this locker room where sunlight streamed diagonally through the windows; the vintage metal lockers, green ball carts, and red wooden vaulting box were packed with authentic high school campus flavor. When the sunlight cast striped shadows across the wooden floor, an afternoon lazy atmosphere came alive instantly. We deliberately avoided dramatic artificial lighting, relying instead on natural light to highlight the character's freshness.
In terms of posing, we experimented with several stances to match the character. For example, sitting cross-legged on the red wooden vaulting box, lying on the smooth wooden floor with feet kicked up, or hugging the long black-and-pink cloth bag prop. These poses were designed to highlight Koharu's tsundere nature—trying hard while pretending not to care. Especially during takes, thinking 'Sensei is an idiot' while making a helpless yet adorably dorky face truly made me feel instantly immersed in the character.
A slight pity is that this photo set sat in the camera for a long time after shooting before I finally found time to post it. Looking back at these photos now, I still feel we captured that authentic, youthful atmosphere very well. In particular, pulling the white stockings high up the thighs paired with the miniskirt was a true highlight of the look—elongating the leg lines while dialing up the athletic sporty vibe and visually fitting the campus sports setting perfectly.
There were also a few funny moments during the shoot. For example, the wing props easily bumped into lockers when moving around, making loud noises, so we had to navigate carefully in the narrow space for fear of damaging the feathers. In addition, although the halo overhead was made of plastic, its texture under sunlight was surprisingly great, radiating a faint pink glow as a pleasant surprise. The red-and-white wooden box served as a fantastic prop; whether sitting or kneeling on it, it provided natural leverage for the body, keeping poses from looking stiff.
Whenever cosplaying characters with specific halos and wings, the biggest concern is always restricted movement and prop positioning, but fortunately, the venue was spacious enough to give us plenty of room to adjust. Overall, being able to fully recreate Shimoe Koharu's cheerleader uniform look and finding a campus setting matching her tsundere persona brought a great sense of accomplishment. I hope everyone across the screen can feel the carefree, energetic afternoon campus vibe in these shots. That's all for this share—I hope these sunlit locker room memories bring you some joy.
