For this Rem Convention photos sharing from the Firefly ACG Expo, I mainly want to talk about the preparation and shooting process of this kimono outfit.
First, regarding hair and makeup: to faithfully recreate the character, I chose a light blue wig this time. The bangs had to be long enough to completely cover the right eye, so trimming the wig cap and styling the hairline took quite some time. For the eyes, I wore blue colored contact lenses; my eyes felt a bit dry after shooting for a long time, so the eye makeup specifically used pink-toned blush and blue eyeliner to add some vivid radiance. The pink cross hairpin and the pink flower ornament on the side of the head served as the finishing touches.
In terms of costume, this white kimono features floral prints in blue, purple, and pink on lightweight fabric. Although it looks airy and cool, shooting outdoors didn't feel stuffy. Because kimono collars overlap in multiple layers, I adjusted how the inner sash was tied to avoid looking bulky, which nicely highlighted the character's natural silhouette during shooting.
The shooting location that day was mainly by the lakeside, surrounded by plenty of trees. Since it was quite crowded, the photographer had to avoid passersby and find good camera angles. To complement the props, most photos featured holding the pink sakura oil-paper umbrella. When the gentle breeze blew, the wig and hemline fluttered with the wind, producing great action shots. The shot in Photo 12 smiling while holding the umbrella is one we were particularly satisfied with, framing the subject in an ideal proportion within the composition.
Finally, I'd like to touch on the color rendition of kimono Rem under natural light. The lighting wasn't harsh, so the resulting blues and pinks came out very soft. Being able to endure the high heat on-site at the anime convention was entirely driven by our shared love for the character. Though the photoshoot was rather exhausting, seeing the final photos was deeply satisfying—and that is truly the joy that cosplay brings.
