[Urawa Hanako Cosplay] Sea Breeze Blown White Shirt and Lazy Twilight

This shoot features a specific summer beach look of Urawa Hanako from Blue Archive. Choosing this theme was primarily to restore her seemingly casual yet slightly lazy temperament, while also challenging myself on how to shoot this kind of translucent white shirt outfit beautifully under outdoor natural light.

Regarding the makeup and hair, the headwear was the absolute top priority of the entire look. For that iconic halo with a bunny-ear shape, we utilized a transparent acrylic headband as the core support point, wrapped the outer layer with foam material of just the right texture, and then finely colored it to ensure there would be no sense of mismatch or obvious color differences when viewed from various tricky angles like low-angle or high-angle shots. The pink wig took a long time to choose; I intentionally selected a material that is naturally slightly fluffy yet highly smooth, performing detailed braiding on both sides, which, accented with white bow hair accessories, enriched the layering beautifully. The bangs were also cut into wispy layers so that even if blown messy by the sea breeze, it would perfectly project the character's natural state of having just played in the water or taken a bath, avoiding a rigid, unchanging look.

In terms of clothing, the core of the entire outfit coordination is this loose white men's shirt. We opted for a cotton-linen blend fabric, which hits the perfect sweet spot for drape and opacity. Under the setting sun, the glow filtering through the fabric carries a natural texture rather than a stark, piercingly bright white. Adopting the "no-pants look" style not only highlights the leg lines but also perfectly aligns with the character's extremely relaxed state while splashing at the beach. To prevent any wardrobe malfunctions, I put a lot of effort into the undergarments and internal anti-exposure tape, ensuring that the frames remained clean and the character's proper temperament was maintained even during loose, extended movements.

Regarding props, the conspicuous green water pipe in my hand is the soulmate of the entire look. Actually, at the beginning of preparations, we searched for various green plastic pipes of different materials and hardness, testing their bending effects and reflectivity, before finally settling on this tube with a certain degree of flexibility. The hand-grip angle and overall curved shape achieved an effect closest to the original official illustrations. Since her gesture of holding the water pipe with one hand is highly natural in many original drawings, we intentionally switched between several holding poses during the shoot—including interlocking both hands and lightly resting one hand—striving to showcase different facets of the character.

The venue was chosen at a beach nearing dusk. The natural light during this window is incredibly charming, with the sunset rays hitting the sea surface and distant buildings, crafting a highly soft and warm visual tone. However, the light changes extremely rapidly at this juncture, and the sea's reflection is also quite intense. To guarantee the clarity of the model's facial contours and catchlights in the eyes, we deployed a massive reflector board on-site for facial fill light during this beach photo shoot. This avoided face washout caused by overly bright ambient light while suppressing the harsh shadows brought by the sea breeze, ensuring that a soft facial texture was maintained even when switching between backlighting and rim lighting.

During the shoot, we actually encountered quite a few minor unexpected events. The most troublesome were the sea breeze and the tide; whenever the sea breeze blew, the hair would easily block the face, or deform the white shirt, causing it to lose its original loose, draped shape. Fortunately, the characteristics of this shirt granted us a lot of room for action performance. To maintain that calm, faintly smiling expression from the original drawings, I closed my eyes during the shoot to listen to the sound of the waves, doing my best to find a sense of true relaxation. Slightly tilting my head, casually tidying up the floating pink strands of hair, or casually holding the water pipe with one hand while matching the ripples of the breeze made the whole process exceptionally comfortable. During post-processing, we didn't change the light and shadow too much, merely maintaining the original warm tone of twilight and moderately adjusting the light transmittance of the white shirt to ensure the clothing was translucent without looking cheap. Once the overall effect came out, it beautifully restored the character's verve. This outdoor shoot was full of challenges, but the final cuts successfully achieved the relaxed feel I desired for this Blue Archive cosplay.
