The character I cosplayed this time is Kanao from Demon Slayer, and the overall look recreates the classic uniform of the Butterfly Mansion. The black standing-collar top is paired with a white haori, and both the subtle butterfly patterns on the haori and the red knot at the collar have been carefully handled. The pink and green butterfly hair accessory on my head and the color on my nails are also as close to the original setting as possible.
For props, I prepared a Nichirin Sword and a blue mechanical butterfly. During the shoot, the butterfly was used as the foreground to create a depth-of-field effect, making the image more layered. The focus of the makeup was on the eyes; purple colored contacts and heavier lower eyeshadow help emphasize Kanao's cool yet slightly lost gaze, while keeping the base makeup clean and translucent. After all, this character gives off an impression of being somewhat introverted but gentle at heart.
The second photo is a full shot with the sword. I slightly adjusted my pose to let the cape fall naturally, showcasing the drape of the outfit. The shoot took place in the indoor venue of the convention, utilizing natural light and reflectors for fill light to make the skin tone softer. In fact, cosplaying such a classic character tests details the most, such as the direction of the hair strands, the smoothness of the collar, and the placement angle of the props—every small detail affects the final atmosphere of the photos.
Kanao doesn't have many lines, but every action of hers carries a firm determination. I hope to convey that quiet strength through these photos as part of my regular Cosplayer Sharing.
