Looking through the photo editing records of these three days, I can truly feel the effort poured into this work by my partner "Sora-meimei" and the photographer "Wanneng de Anchun". Although editing and selecting photos indeed took a lot of time, seeing these moments finally captured during twilight on the rooftop makes the wait completely worthwhile.
The shoot for this Stellefly set was chosen on an open high-rise rooftop, where the pink sunset glow at dusk reflected on the distant city skyline, creating a highly soft natural filter for these characters. This Firefly cosplay outfit, with its cyan hair ribbon and ruffled neckline, paired with Trailblazer Stelle's iconic black, white, and yellow techwear jacket—the two completely different styles achieved a wonderful visual blending under the warm evening sun. We intentionally chose not to completely blur out the background, but instead retained the layering of the city's high-rise buildings, hoping to convey an immersive feeling of "playing our favorite characters in a corner of the city."
The interaction design during the shoot was actually more interesting than imagined. For example, with that eye-covering pose, we actually burst into laughter on set many times because it was hard for the two of us to match our walking pace and rhythm while blindfolded. Also, for that combined photo using a manga panel layout, the original shot for the "kick away worries" text bubble was actually captured from several angles, and we picked the one with the fullest emotion to turn into a manga style. Compared to static, stiff posing, these photos with movement and interaction always bring the characters to life as a slice of 2D daily life.
The focus of post-processing for this set of photos lies in the balance between light, shadow, and texture. On one hand, we needed to keep the romantic pink-orange tone of the sunset glow; on the other hand, we couldn't over-smooth the skin, which would cause the fabric texture of the costume and prop details to be lost. Special praise goes to the pocket watch prop on Trailblazer Stelle and the ribbon tie on Firefly's costume; these accessories were edited to restore the three-dimensional feel of their materials as much as possible.
My partner Sora-meimei had wonderful expressiveness in front of the lens; whether being cool and sharp or goofy and funny, she could quickly enter the state, perfectly fitting Trailblazer Stelle's relaxed and casual setting. As a cosplay creator, being able to complete such a dimension-breaking outdoor shoot on a rooftop with a great partner, recording that unique tacit understanding between the characters, makes it a truly commemorative and meaningful experience in cosplay photography.
