This time I'm bringing you the cosplay record of Sunflower from You and Me and Her: A Love Story. Some friends have been mentioning in the comments before that maybe Aoi's route actually exists, so this time I decided to turn this idea into reality and cosplay this character.
For handling the wig, to restore the character's pink-to-orange gradient hair color, I chose a wig with a relatively close base color and trimmed it. Because I wanted to achieve that extraordinary 2D translucent feel, I evenly sprayed a layer of fine glitter sequins on the surface of the hair fibers. The top part of the wig was styled into a small tuft and fixed with hairspray, while the hair ends were slightly curled with a curling iron, so the overall look wouldn't appear flat and would add some lightness. Since I needed to create messy yet layered air bangs, trimming still took some time, requiring step-by-step adjustments to the direction of the stray hairs.
In terms of makeup, the eye-makeup was the focus this time. I wore reddish-brown enlarging contact lenses, chose a warm-toned pink-brown eyeshadow as a base, slightly deepened the outer corners of the eyes, and also drew lower eyelashes to enlarge the eye contours. Blush was swept over a large area across the middle of the face and nose tip, combined with highlighter to create a healthy, rosy pinkish feel. The lips used a watery pink lip glaze, slightly layered with a transparent lip gloss. The overall makeup didn't have too many complex shadows, mainly highlighting fair skin tone and soft facial features.
On the clothing side, the inner layer is a white sailor-style collar top, with black line decorations on the collar and a black bow tied at the chest. Over it is a light yellow coarse-knit cardigan; the sweater's thickness and draping feel are great, which not only increases the layering of the overall outfit but also makes it look more casual. The bottom is paired with a black-and-white striped pleated skirt, with a length that just shows off the leg lines. For shoes and stockings, I chose black platform shoes paired with black stockings, which can visually elongate the leg proportions, making the whole look more coordinated and better fitting the character's temperament that carries a bit of playfulness and a hint of mystery.
The full-body mirror selfie in Picture 4 is one of my favorites, because it's a full-body appearance, so it can nicely showcase the overall outfit proportions. The advantage of a mirror selfie is that you can control the composition yourself; I turned my body slightly sideways to make the lines of the skirt hem and stockings more layered. Picture 2 features a large plush toy nearby, crouching in the corner of the mall and posing pointing at the toy; this kind of interaction makes the frame look less monotonous, feeling like a captured moment during daily hanging out. Pictures 1 and 3 mainly brought the lens closer, used to showcase the details of facial makeup, especially the reflective effect of the glitter on the wig under the lights.
When shooting this set of pictures, to make the expressions fit the character better, I specially listened to some original voice lines from the game. The character Sunflower has a very complex inner world, and the multi-loop setting of the game itself and the suspense of Aoi's route have left a deep impression on players. Although photos can only present static frames, during the shooting process, I kept trying to incorporate that subtle feeling of being lively yet carrying a touch of danger into my movements and gaze. The lighting at the shooting location was quite mixed, with top lighting and display window lights, so I constantly adjusted angles during shooting to make the facial lighting as uniform as possible, ensuring more makeup texture could be preserved in post-processing. Although the process constantly involved adjusting the wig and clothing, seeing the final photo results made all these preparations feel worth it.
Outdoor shooting is actually quite a test of physical strength, especially when walking in platform shoes, requiring constant attention to your feet. To make the cardigan fit look nicer, during shooting breaks, I often had to rearrange the positions of the shoulders and collar. To be honest, the color combination of this outfit is very warm; under slightly dim indoor lighting, the pairing of pink and yellow gives off a retro texture. Since the original work is in a Galgame style, I still wanted to retain some everyday lifestyle framing, like a corner of a mall or a dressing room background. Without adding too much special effect filtering, it mainly relies on the base color tones and light/shadow of the original photos to set the atmosphere. Regarding the details of wig maintenance, if anyone needs it, I can also separately organize the styling and anti-frizz techniques for pink wigs later. I hope this restoration allows everyone to feel the unique charm of the character herself, and also provides some reference for friends who like this work.
