A portion of the Convention photos from the Jinling Youth Cultural Expo has finally been edited. To pull off this Maid outfit for Bocchi-chan well, a lot of thought went into styling and coordination beforehand. The long, straight pink hair was specifically layered, and the bangs required meticulous trimming to contour the face nicely. The puff sleeves of the Maid outfit and the cat-paw details on the apron stay very true to the design; combined with that enormous fluffy tail, the completeness of the whole ensemble shot up. The White stockings and black dress shoes serve as the soul of this look—putting them on instantly got me into character.
The on-site lighting was rather tricky, so I discussed it at length with the photographer. To emphasize image texture, we opted for side-backlighting against a dark backdrop to illuminate the hair strands and face, making the pink hair appear much more translucent. For the first shot sitting on the stepladder, the focus was showcasing waistlines and leg proportions, with an upward-pointing finger gesture adding liveliness. The second standing pose with clasped hands is more restrained, requiring a slightly blank, bewildered gaze that better suits the personality. The chin-touching gesture in the third shot was an impromptu idea—it brings out a cute side while naturally drawing attention to facial makeup. The subtle head tilt in the fourth shot was meant to fine-tune how light hit the face, softening the expression.
This entire set aims to convey an atmosphere both delicate and adorable. The plush tail holds strong visual weight in frame, requiring constant attention so it wouldn't blur into an indistinct clump while moving around. Though the convention was tiring, meeting so many friends who love the same work and sharing posing tips and photo insights felt truly rewarding. We avoided overly intricate post-effects, choosing instead to preserve the natural light transitions and skin textures on set. Many thanks to the photographer's patient guidance and sharp captures that caught so many subtle nuances. I hope these pictures allow everyone to feel that cute gap-charm of being socially anxious yet trying hard to put on a show.
Balancing the tail's placement and the skirt hem while keeping facial expressions composed takes a genuine physical toll. Seeing the clean finished shots, however, makes every bit of effort worth it. Makeup-wise, to complement the pink hair, the eyeshadow leaned into warm pink-purple tones, backed by heavier eyeliner and thicker lashes so facial features wouldn't flatten under strong light. The purple contact lenses formed a balanced contrast with the hair. Because Bocchi-chan is defined by her social anxiety, expressions cannot be too carefree; they require subtle restraint and timid, wandering glances. For someone who usually laughs freely, fine-tuning those facial muscles was quite a challenge. We shot in a quieter corner of the convention, where the black folding ladder offered versatile angles. The sitting pose was the ultimate core test—maintaining an upright torso while letting leg lines extend naturally without stiffness. White stockings naturally catch light against dark backdrops; paired with gentle post-production diffusion, the entire shot gives off a dreamy anime ambiance. These Convention photos record my love for the series and wrap up a thoroughly enjoyable shooting experience.
