Shooting this set of Honor of Kings Yao photos on-site at the anime convention took less than two hours from trying on the outfit to the finished shots, mainly thanks to the lightweight nature of the costume and props. The animal ears and small white deer antlers atop the head are the soul of the entire look. To reflect the organic, natural aura of "all things have spirits," I deliberately chose a warm-toned pink for the wig, styled into twin braids draped over the chest, which paired with pink painted stripe accents on the cheeks to give a truly ethereal look. The top is a brown leather-textured tube top layered over a white base, finished with plush fur trim on the shoulders that accentuates the waistline nicely. The skirt features asymmetrical brown fabric tied with a slender red cord at the waist, adorned with hanging feathers and small trinkets that sway with every step, offering rich detail. The staff in hand was custom-made by a prop maker; the brown shaft is wrapped with blue swirling lines and crowned with a bright blue leaf-shaped ornament—though visually large, its weight was kept well under control, making it effortless to hold with one hand or carry horizontally with both.
Behind this outfit drapes a large, light purple cape. When scouting camera spots in the convention hall, I paid close attention to background cleanliness. The venue's grey walls and circular ceiling light pillars provided a modern texture that contrasted intriguingly against this fantasy-nature outfit. To showcase the cape, I tried a kneeling pose on one knee, letting the cape spill naturally across the floor while holding the staff vertically in one hand, gazing straight into the lens to give the character more storytelling depth. In the standing shot holding the staff horizontally, the photographer instructed me to lean forward slightly so the cape billowed behind me; that candid snapshot felt exceptionally dynamic, perfectly fitting that agile, free-spirited temperament where all things possess spirit.
Attending a convention in cosplay is not just about recreating appearance, but about tapping into the character's state of mind. Since this costume has a relatively high degree of exposed skin, the venue's air conditioning was a lifesaver. To stay faithful to the setting, I even coordinated my nail color, and the green wrist accessories were deliberately picked to match the overall palette. The most challenging aspect was actually maintaining that effortless lightness—even though the staff isn't heavy, holding it aloft or posing continuously still made my arms ache, requiring quick breaks whenever the photographer adjusted lighting. Additionally, ambient light inside the hall was somewhat messy, but fortunately the photographer brought fill lights to subdue the background slightly, achieving such clean frames.
I thoroughly enjoyed this shoot at the convention. Even though it was crowded and running around scouting spots worked up a sweat, being able to capture the agility and natural charm of this character made it completely worthwhile.
