[Diaochan cosplay] Ethereal Grace of Honor of Kings, Captured Live at the Convention

As the cosplayer for Diaochan, in these convention photos from the NCE convention, I tried to interpret this character in a quieter, more composed way. From the makeup outlines to putting on the outfit, every single detail was crafted to restore that ethereal, agile atmosphere in front of the lens. This set of photos was completed in a temporary booth setup inside the exhibition hall. The hall's familiar metal trusses and ceiling lights can be seen in the background. Although the lighting conditions at the convention site were complex, the photographer used softboxes and black flag boards on site to effectively suppress background clutter, drawing visual focus entirely back to the person.

This white-and-pink gradient dress is actually quite demanding for movement. Thigh-high socks paired with white chunky heels required extra caution while walking around the hall, but this clean, gentle color scheme indeed imparts a sense of sacredness to the character. The wide cloud-pattern flowing sleeves are the highlight of this attire. Photo 2 shows a full-body standing pose—the moment one leg is slightly raised with arms spread open, the skirt hem and sleeves flutter in the wind, which is precisely the flowing elegance I love. When posing, I intentionally kept my center of gravity stable and practiced this gesture many times, as this momentary dynamic motion places high demands on the shutter speed on site. Meanwhile, Photos 3 and 4 feature a relaxed sitting posture on a high stool, where I tried adding hand gestures with a touch of traditional opera flair, hoping to showcase the character's unique gentleness and agility through delicate fingertips.

Regarding hair and makeup, the wig this time was built quite high, which, together with intricate metal headpieces, a forehead jewel, and long hairpins, made the head weight far from light. Especially for the half-body close-up in Photo 1 where the head tilts slightly backward, it required not only displaying a graceful neck and shoulder line, but also constantly maintaining the stability of the crown. I believe cosplay isn't just about standing there in costume; more importantly, it's about merging oneself with the character's inner spirit. Even minor adjustments—like the angle of a slightly raised chin or the curvature of bent fingers—can completely alter the mood of the entire image.

Convention sites are always bustling with crowds, so finding a quiet lighting area in such a noisy environment was no easy feat. During the shoot, passersby and fellow enthusiasts constantly stopped to watch, and I could feel their love for this character. In this set of photos, the lighting contoured the figure just right, giving the photos an ethereal feel. Communicating with everyone on social media regularly has made me realize how satisfying it is to materialize the things I love. This is not just an exhilarating cosplay, but also a deep exploration of artistic style and character depth. Looking at the raw shots in the camera, the light-dark gradation and color fidelity exceeded expectations. Moments recorded through the lens like these are precisely why I've remained passionate about this community over the years. Switching back and forth between studio shoots and convention photos gives me a more three-dimensional understanding of the character.
