[Emilia Cosplay] Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World-, the Elf Girl Under the Wisteria

From the studio set construction to the light angles, this Emilia shoot actually went through quite detailed planning. The core of character recognition lies in the silver-white long hair paired with pointed elf ears, plus the purple-and-white modified Japanese-style outfit. Combining these iconic elements basically conveys the character's elf girl traits instantly. Instead of choosing outdoor natural light this time, we specifically built an indoor set with a Japanese-style wooden platform, setting the primary color tones to light purple and pure white to fit the color atmosphere of the original setting as much as possible.

The process of combing the wig took more time than expected. Since silver-white hair easily reflects light and overexposes under bright lights, we paid special attention to smoothness when styling it. Meanwhile, the side-braided pigtails were decorated with light purple tassel hair accessories, corresponding to the character's iconic ornaments on the top and side of her head. For makeup, I used light blue-purple colored contacts in a similar color palette, keeping the eye makeup light to preserve that clear, peaceful gaze of the character. I chose pointed elf ears, secured with special glue; the angle of the ear tips after wearing them also affects the visual effect of the overall facial contour, helping to elongate the facial lines when paired with the hairstyle.

Regarding the fabric of the outfit, the white outer skirt used a material with a beautiful drape, featuring flowing and wide cuffs. The purple inner skirt hem is adorned with gold patterns, which not only adds to the richness of the costume details but also creates reflections under side-lighting, enhancing the picture's texture. The ball-shaped ornament at the waist is also one of the focal points of this outfit, boosting the visual weight of the lower body. The white over-the-knee stockings paired with purple ruffles naturally elongate the leg lines in kneeling and side-sitting postures, serving as a standout visual element in the overall look.

The camera angles during the shoot alternated between high-angle shots and close-ups. The high-angle overhead shots of the first two photos, combined with the Japanese oil-paper umbrella set up on-site, formed a natural mask and foreground at the top of the frame, making the structure and shadow contours of the wooden platform floor much clearer. Props like teacups, tea sets, and the purple scabbard were placed to match this atmosphere of \"tranquility and tea ceremony.\" These props were not just decorations; they also helped guide the viewer's gaze during composition, allowing the character and the scene to interact naturally.

The last two photos pulled the camera closer, focusing on showcasing character expressions and outfit details. Natural light, or equivalent sunlight, hit from the upper side, forming a clear boundary between light and shadow on the wooden platform. Positioning the character right at this intersection beautifully outlined her cheeks, shoulders, and neck. This light and shadow treatment kept the soft atmosphere of the frame while providing a distinct three-dimensional layering. Paired with the dry wood, rockery, and white simulated flowers arranged on the right, it neutralized some of the sharpness of the Japanese-style scene, adding a dreamlike vibe.

This work aims to express that characteristic of being both gentle and powerful from the character's original setting. Reflecting on my mood while sorting out this photo set over the past few days, seeing the purple wisteria vines hanging down and the shadow of the oil-paper umbrella falling on the wooden planks, I found myself contemplating her pure yet resilient personality in the parallel world while wearing this outfit. From selecting props and coordinating the costume to communicating angles and lighting with the photographer, bringing a 2D image step-by-step into a 3D photograph was an incredibly enjoyable process, which is the exact charm of Anime-style photography. The character's nature of embracing and caring for those around her was something I subconsciously tried to align with through my postures and expressions during the shoot. This shoot left me with very special memories; in the dim glow of the wooden set, I briefly became her.
