This Yoimiya cosplay outfit I wore for the shoot actually took quite a while to think through in terms of details. First is the overall color scheme—a patchwork of orange, white, and black, combined with a large area of ruffled design, which gives a very lively summer festival vibe. The beast ear styling and black bow on the head are the soul of the entire look. Paired with purple ribbons and that colorful spherical ornament on the side, though the heavy wind blew it messy during shooting, it actually enhanced the sense of dynamism.
For makeup, to fit the character, I chose a very translucent base to preserve the skin's radiance. The eye makeup emphasized the clear brightness of the amber colored contacts, paired with a bit of warm orange eyeshadow. Under the warm yellow light of the lanterns at night, it made the gaze look highly energetic and agile. The lip color wasn't too intense; instead, I used a soft fleshy pink shade, which blends well with the overall genki girl vibe.
The shooting location this time was an outdoor lantern promenade, and the effect after lighting up at night was extremely dreamy. The large aperture completely blurred the background lanterns into beautiful light spots. This bokeh effect immediately added a touch of lively festival atmosphere and storytelling to the frame. The photographer captured the moments perfectly, especially those shots where I squatted down to light the sparklers. The sparks of the cold fireworks flickered in the dark, dotting a touch of brightness into the image, which just happened to neutralize the warm yellow undertones of the background. The interweaving of cold and warm color temperatures injected a unique charm into this Japanese-style night view, resulting in an exceptional sparkler mood shot.
The texture of the costume also stood out beautifully in this night shoot. Although the overall material used a lot of slightly glossy satin and light mesh, it didn't look out of place under the nighttime ambient light. Instead, it allowed the white parts to carry the warm color of the lanterns, looking softer and more natural. The black geometric decoration on the chest and the magenta strap patchwork on the waist added layers to the otherwise sweet outfit, preventing it from looking too plain. The ruffled design at the cuffs and wrists also presented a very natural flow when striking various poses.
To be honest, the greatest challenge of wearing this outfit was having to constantly pay attention to keeping the wig and accessories tidy while moving around outdoors. Because wind blowing was inevitable during the shooting process, and I also had to hold the sparklers myself to control the angle and distance to avoid sparks splashing onto my hair. Fortunately, both the wig and hair accessories were securely fixed, so the overall look basically stayed intact throughout the shoot.
We also put some thought into the action design in the photos. Besides the common peace sign, squatting down to hand out a sparkler, lifting one leg to showcase the skirt layers, and turning around with a side glance were all poses intended to display the design details of this outfit to the maximum extent while delivering a relaxed and happy emotion. I feel that the meaning of cosplay photography is not just to replicate a character's outer appearance, but more importantly, to transmit that life-loving, vibrant spirit inherent in the character.
Personally, I'm quite satisfied with the final results of this shoot. Whether it's the combination of the scene, the use of light and shadow, or the presentation of makeup and hair styling, everything achieved the anticipated feeling. Enhanced by the night scenery and fireworks, the unique summer festival atmosphere exuded by this look truly brings a strong sense of immersion.
