[Yumemizuki Mizuki Cosplay] Lively Healer from Genshin Impact: Outdoor Snapshot Documentary

During this photoshoot on Day 2 of the Firefly ACG Expo, I finally had the chance to bring the character Yumemizuki Mizuki into a real outdoor setting. The weather was just right with soft lighting, and paired with fill lights on site, the overall yield of good shots was even higher than expected.

Since the character naturally possesses an ethereal and healing aura, I made a point to keep the base makeup extra translucent during styling. The eye makeup used light purple tones to highlight depth in the eyes, which, combined with the pointy elf ears, really made it easy to immerse oneself in an otherworld atmosphere. The costume's structure is actually quite complex; I initially thought the wide bell sleeves would get in the way, but once worn, those blue-and-purple swirling patterns felt remarkably fluid while walking. In particular, the small bell around the neck jingled softly with every step, drawing glances from fellow fans around the venue—a kind of interaction that truly gives that immersive anime convention feel.

Outdoor cosplay photography in broad daylight with the photographer really tests light control, as diffuse sunlight on the plaza combined with reflector boards can easily overexpose white clothing. However, this time we tried adjusting the softbox to a lower angle, casting a cool bluish fill light into the shadows that perfectly echoed the character's original light aqua hair color. For the full-body shots, I tried a pose with one leg lifted and arms extended; although it looked airy, maintaining balance was surprisingly tricky—especially since the flat wooden geta soles made my feet feel sore after standing for a while. To make the pose look completely natural, we repeatedly adjusted how my weight shifted before finally selecting this standing shot, where the leg lines look nicely elongated and the pink-and-black floor mat beneath created a great color contrast.

Of course, the high-angle overhead shot was also very interesting. With the camera set high, I looked up slightly toward the lens with a softened expression, which, combined with the hair bows and ears, gave off a cute charm. But if picking a cover, I personally favor the second standing pose—that lively yet slightly playful feel conveys the character's spirit much better than sitting or a waist-up close-up. During the outdoor shoot, I also bumped into friendly passersby who asked what series I was from; when I mentioned Genshin Impact, they all felt the cosplay accuracy was great, which made me super happy.

The convention outdoors was quite noisy that day, surrounded by other booths and photography gear, but when focusing in front of the camera, all that hustle and bustle faded away. I got used to adjusting sleeve folds or parting my wig bangs between shutter clicks—tiny details that noticeably impact overall quality when reviewing raw photos later. This shoot also got me more accustomed to how costumes with large wave patterns behave during movement, allowing me to control body motion more gracefully if I do similar styles in the future.

Overall, despite being just a few hours of shooting, behind every photo lay countess tweaks with reflector umbrellas, angle adjustments, and retakes. Being able to appear at a major event like the Guangzhou Anime Convention as a beloved character is an empowering achievement in itself. Seeing my efforts recorded into beautiful pictures after the photos came out made all the fatigue of that day feel completely worthwhile.
