[Takanashi Hoshino cosplay] Seaside Summer "Uncle" — Blue and White Refreshing Style Photoshoot Log

This time, I'm bringing you a summer swimsuit photoshoot of Takanashi Hoshino from Blue Archive, shot on a sunny beach. I've always had a huge fondness for this character with her gap-moe charm—that giant pink halo, the pink twin-tails, and her usual lazy yet dependable aura are so captivating in the game, which inspired me to plan this relaxing seaside photoshoot.

To fit the seaside vacation theme, I opted for a refreshing and minimalist style for the outfit. A white ruffled bandeau top paired with white pleated shorts feels cool and breathable, perfectly matching the summer mood. Layering a light blue hooded sun-protective jacket over it not only shields against harsh beach sunlight and ocean breezes during low tide, but also color-coordinates wonderfully with the blue inflatable whale prop. This outfit didn't need overly complicated accessories; the simple blue-and-white palette naturally suited the character's casual everyday vibe.

For this shoot, I brought a giant blue-and-white inflatable whale as a prop. Bringing this big guy on location actually took considerable effort—from inflating to hauling it tested physical stamina, not to mention keeping it from blowing away in the wind or sinking into the sand. But having this prop added so much interactive flavor to the shots. Hugging it, leaning against it, or propping it up on the beach made the shooting process relaxing and fun. Coordinating poses with props was essential, and luckily, the lighting and tide conditions were fantastic that day.

When it comes to Takanashi Hoshino, friends familiar with the game know she loves calling herself "ojisan" (uncle). So during the shoot, instead of just portraying plain cuteness, I tried infusing her signature aura of "usually lounging around lazily, yet rock-solid dependable when things get real." For instance, showcasing a composed expression or more nonchalant gestures in frozen moments helped convey that gap-moe trait through subtle details.

The location was chosen on a semi-developed beach with just the right sunlight and few tourists around to disturb us. Walking barefoot on the beach meant inevitably getting poked by coarse sand and occasionally stepping into shallow puddles, but feeling the sea breeze brought an immersive sensation. Slipping back into the sun-protective jacket immediately after shooting each shot was super practical. The wig and headpiece had noticeable weight on top, and under direct sunlight, sweating was a real challenge, but seeing the resulting shots made every bit worth it.

For the makeup, since the pink twin-tails and concentric-circle halo were already striking visual elements, I avoided heavy makeup. I focused on the eye makeup with a translucent base to highlight the expression of the eyes, choosing natural tones for the lips so the makeup wouldn't look cakey under the afternoon sun, keeping the pink hair and outfit colors in harmonious balance.

The giant inflatable whale became a delightfully fun "partner" in this shoot. We tried many different poses: standing it upright beside me, hugging it, or leaning over pressing down on it as shown in the final photos—the entire process was full of laughter. Beyond faithful character recreation, the greatest charm of cosplay lies in creating these enjoyable, memorable moments within everyday scenes.

This outdoor location shoot also allowed me to experience the unique texture of outdoor natural light portraiture. Under the sunlight, the pale pink wig revealed rich layered sheens and skin highlights appeared remarkably soft—a texture that studio lighting can hardly replicate. Although managing natural light relies a bit on luck, the resulting photos are filled with vivid life.

Sorting through the final photos—seeing the white sea foam rolled up by waves, the wet sandy beach, and the footprints left standing barefoot in seawater—I felt we truly captured the character's relaxed, cozy seaside atmosphere. Stepping away from complex studio sets to immerse into the character within a natural environment is truly a delightful experience in this cosplay sharing.
