The concept behind this finished Hifumi swimsuit photoshoot took shape long ago. In Blue Archive, this look—a two-piece white swimsuit cascading with ruffles accented by black bow ties—naturally evokes a breezy summer getaway feeling. To complement this ambiance, I intentionally selected an indoor set featuring a pure white pool and classical Roman pillar sculptures. Taking advantage of some free time today, I'd like to share the shooting nuances behind this series.
Faithfully capturing the garments and styling was the essential first step. I chose a long light-blonde wig styled into twin tails, attaching small white wing hair ornaments at the bases to evoke the character's delightful blend of cute and subtly mischievous charm. For makeup, the eyes were blended with soft orange-pink shadows paired with reddish-brown contact lenses; coupled with a soft dusting of blush across the cheeks, the overall cosmetic finish favored a translucent, energetic glow. The yellow halo prop crowning the head was custom-built; keeping it natural before the lens took considerable effort, utilizing ultra-fine clear wire to adjust angles so turning my head wouldn't reveal the rigging.
The day was rather warm, but the coolness emanating from the pool provided comfortable relief. The ruffled tiers of this swimsuit were abundant, easily looking bulky on camera if neglected, so between takes I personally smoothed down the creases. Many setups featured seated postures along the pool rim; to flatter leg lines, I subtly shifted my sitting angle to create visual extension. For instance, in one shot where my feet dangle above the water while hugging my knees, we cycled through numerous perspectives to locate the sweet spot that elongated the legs without appearing rigid.
I deeply appreciated the nuances of the set design. Props along the edge—a silver water kettle, small wine glasses, and a platter filled with pineapple and orange slices—were carefully placed to channel the leisurely ease of a summer afternoon. As I posed with these props by the pool, the photographer continually reminded me to relax my shoulders and keep my gaze lively and composed rather than blank. Capturing that feeling of savoring afternoon tea while chatting with close friends was precisely what I wanted to convey. Additionally, the black sunglasses served as a fantastic accessory; whether propped atop my head or held in hand, they diversified hand gestures and kept framing dynamic.
Another shot captured me kneeling inside the pool looking back over my shoulder; water splashed considerably and the pool bottom was slick, requiring quiet core engagement to maintain balance and graceful posture. The visual payoff was thoroughly worth it: the line of my back harmonized beautifully with the backward glance, delivering a damp, cooling summer freshness. Overall lighting leaned warm, and in post-processing I specifically asked to retain natural skin translucency and water-surface gleam without excessive skin-smoothing.
Every cosplay journey—from selecting the character and crafting garments and props to syncing with the photography crew on set—is a genuinely engaging process. Bringing this character to life through a relaxed, casual Swimsuit cosplay was aimed at offering everyone a visual breath of fresh air in the summer heat. I am immensely satisfied with this series and hope you all feel the warmth and beauty of this summer moment.
