[Takanashi Hoshino cosplay] Blue Archive: Ancient Style Mid-Autumn Festival Look

For this Mid-Autumn Festival cosplay themed shoot, I chose Takanashi Hoshino from Blue Archive. The outfit is a modified Ancient style cosplay silhouette in white and blue; the overlapping collar and flowing wide sleeves lend a breezy grace to the overall look, while pink and blue tassel cords cinch the waist to cut through the monotony of the cool palette. To complement the ensemble, I opted for a long, straight pastel-pink wig, specially styling twin white bunny-ear-like buns at the crown to heighten character recognition in-frame. As for cosmetics, the focus centered around the eyes: to honor her canon design, I wore heterochromatic contact lenses—one azure blue and one amber yellow—blended with delicate gradient eye shadows and soft rose lips to give the face dimension true to the 2D aesthetic.

The second image serves as the core visual of this set: seated upon layers of sheer gossamer on the floor, holding a round silk fan adorned with floral-and-bird motifs and a deep emerald tassel. The studio set featured geometric wooden lattice screen frames backlit by an even, warm light source, accented with blooming pink floral branches and draped gauze curtains. The background also incorporated wooden bookshelves, blue thread-bound tomes, blue-and-white porcelain vases, and warm floor lanterns, establishing an ambiance that felt classical yet steeped in fantasy. For the lower half, I paired over-the-knee White stockings to balance the ornate complexity of the ancient attire above. When posing, since the upper garment is rather loose, I adopted a side-sitting posture—stretching one leg forward while gently bending the other—to avoid bulkiness, allowing the skirt to fan out organically while highlighting the clean lines of the White stockings.

While the first photo had great framing, the anti-theft watermark sticker in the lower left made it unsuitable as the primary cover. When shooting the second picture, the greatest challenge lay in balancing the lighting: we needed to preserve the backlit silhouette cast through the wooden lattices while keeping facial illumination crisp. To achieve this, we placed a soft fill light directly in front of my face and strategically positioned the fan to diffuse direct beams, preventing blown-out highlights and ensuring soft shadow transitions. The white gossamer spread across the floor also acted as a subtle reflector, softening shadows under the chin and neckline.

This entire shoot was a refreshing experiment, fusing character canon with traditional festive elements. From garment care and wig sculpting to prop selection and environmental light testing, every phase required meticulous advance planning. To channel the character's tranquil demeanor, I kept my physical posture relaxed and my gaze gentle. Bringing these virtual characters to life with full dedication is an immensely rewarding experience for any cosplayer.
