[Xiao Wu cosplay & Ning Rongrong cosplay] Soul Land Duo: A Xianxia Appointment Under Traditional Light and Shadow

This set of Soul Land dual cosplay photos featuring Xiao Wu and Ning Rongrong is finally compiled! We spent a whole day shooting in a real-scene studio full of traditional charm, effectively bringing to life our understanding of the sisterly bond between these two characters.

Setting up the scene actually took a lot of thought—the set was filled with hanging purple wisteria, flanked by vast pink cherry blossoms and red maple leaves in the foreground. Combined with the moon gate on white walls, wooden long couches, and several bamboo lanterns radiating warm yellow light, when sunlight streamed through the wooden window frames, it truly created the illusion of stepping into a Xianxia fantasy world.

For makeup and hair styling, we put great effort into restoring character traits. For my Xiao Wu cosplay, I kept the highly recognizable pink rabbit ear headpiece, adorned with fine silver hanging ornaments and tassels to maximize layering. The costume features layered light gauze fabric, combining soft light purple with white, making the floor-length skirt hem look exceptionally light and agile. My partner played Ning Rongrong cosplay; her long teal-and-white dress complemented her skin tone wonderfully, while her silver hairpins and forehead ornaments were meticulously crafted. The translucent teal mini tower prop in her hand restored the character's most core element. Meanwhile, props like the blue-and-pink flower bouquets we held and the bamboo scrolls placed nearby added rich storytelling to the overall frame in this Chinese-style photography session.

The most challenging aspect during the shoot was coordinating with light and shadow. Because the photographer wanted that agile look where the gauze dress glows translucent and hair strands shine under backlighting, we had to repeatedly adjust our sitting poses between the wooden couch and the floor. I particularly remember the shot where I leaned against my partner's lap; to capture that dependent yet reassuring atmosphere between us, we not only had to control our breathing in sync to maintain stability, but also manage our expressions under intense lighting without breaking character into laughter. Holding the same pose for long periods made our backs and legs genuinely sore and numb, but seeing the soft halo of light on the raw photos made every bit of hard work worth it.

This photo set made me deeply realize that great Traditional style cosplay isn't just mechanically putting on a character's clothes, but dissolving into their personality and soul. Xiao Wu's pure, agile, and slightly playful charm, paired with Ning Rongrong's gentle, dignified, yet proud noble lady temperament, formed a beautifully complementary and fateful aura under this specific traditional light and shadow. Holding the treasure tower with a serene expression, my partner instantly brought her character to life. Meanwhile, I tried to convey a relaxed yet firm demeanor through my bouquet and casual posture.

Doing a high-intensity shoot like this is honestly exhausting, but from early costume prep and wig trimming to on-site positioning guidance on shooting day, and through post-processing filtering and color grading, the entire process was tough yet immensely satisfying. Being able to bring beloved characters into reality with a friend and freeze these story-rich moments before the lens is the most captivating part of cosplay. Working so smoothly with my partner made me believe that as long as heart is put into it, the image will convey the best atmosphere. Looking back in the future, I will surely remember the joy of helping each other adjust lapels in the studio and lifting our skirt hems to move between different scenes.
