This set of photos from the Lantern Rite period before the New Year is finally organized and released. I've tried similar outfits before, but this time, under the photographer's suggestion, we made many new attempts in scene configuration and lighting schemes. Looking back at the photos now, I still feel they have great texture.

For the set design, we specially built this Chinese-style themed studio centered around a giant luminous moon. The large, cool-toned moon in the background serves as the main backlight source, beautifully outlining the character's silhouette and lending the frame a naturally cool, independent, and ethereal aura. Combined with the scattered pink and white peach blossom branches in the foreground, the white plush blanket spread on the floor, and the warm-toned stone lanterns on the side, the contrast between cool and warm tones perfectly balances the character's innate sense of detachment with the festival's lively atmosphere. The addition of scrolls and an antique wooden desk instantly opens up the depth of field across the entire plane.

The costumes, makeup, and props underwent further upgrades this time. The gold-thread embroidered patterns and draping tassels on the clothes are exceptionally exquisite. The patchwork tailoring of deep blue and black, combined with the white lining, heavily tests the three-dimensional fit once put on. This silver-gray short-hair wig actually has highly meticulous layered trimming; paired with a few clusters of dian-cui (feather inlay) hair accessories on the head, it ensures the hairstyle isn't dull while echoing the attire beautifully. To keep the costume flat and neat on the body, I had to mindfully pull at the cuffs and hem with every pose transition.

Speaking of the coordination between actions and props, I think that was the most interesting part of this shoot. The posture of holding the white paper umbrella looks simple, but the opening angle of the umbrella and the gripping gesture had to be repeatedly adjusted to make the frame look both ritualistic and free of stiffness. Especially the dancing blue silk ribbon in picture two, its texture was actually quite heavy; to make it present a natural curve in the air rather than a rigid, straight chunk, we attempted throwing and snapping over a dozen times, coordinating with the capture of side-backlighting to finally achieve that sense of fluidity in the photo. The utilization of props must be combined with the body's exertion points to break away from stiff, staged poses.

Regarding the quote mentioned in the sharing post, "You are the true red string that can bind me," I did intentionally lean toward that restrained yet resolute temperament during the shoot. A character's emotional expression is rarely overt; instead, it is transmitted through a steady gaze and a controlled posture. There's no need to deliberately cater to the lens with a smile; maintaining that detached and focused state conversely does a better job interpreting the obsession within the character design.

The shooting process was actually quite physically demanding; after all, it was an out-of-season studio shoot, where the warmth of the clothing and maintaining high-intensity poses for long periods were both tests of stamina. However, the moment I saw the final photos, I felt that repeatedly adjusting the lights and angles was entirely worth it. Taking this opportunity, I've managed to fill in the compositional angles I hadn't attempted before. Lastly, a special thanks to the photographer for managing the entire process—not only capturing the light and shadow beautifully but also keeping the communication atmosphere incredibly relaxed, ultimately rendering this unique, ethereal atmosphere characteristic of Chinese fantasy.
